eMachines T5246

With the T5246, eMachines (finally) adds a second gigabyte of RAM, giving it the chops to be a good light-duty bargain desktop.

Under $500 for the "top-of-the-line" eMachine system. 2GB of system memory. 400GB hard drive.

Still a lot of bloatware. Dated integrated graphics. Free Norton Internet Security subscription drops to 60 days. A ball mouse—in 2008?

eMachines T5246 review: eMachines T5246

eMachines T5246

Full-fledged Windows Vista PC for less than $500; largest hard drive in its price category.

A few systems at retail have faster CPUs for less.

The eMachines T5246 is an imminently capable budget desktop, with pretty much every feature you'd want in a day-to-day PC. If you're inclined to bargain hunt you might find a better deal by a few dollars, but if you pick this one up you won't go wrong...

eMachines T5246

At $620 (as of 2/7/08), the eMachines T5246 is the least expensive value PC in our lineup. But since it's a prebuilt retail system available in only one configuration (it's sold as the 4200+ Desktop at Best Buy), you can't mix and match components...

Very inexpensive ; Large (400GB) hard drive

Weak integrated graphics ; Bundle LCD only a 17-inch display

Low-priced PC has capacious storage and good expansion options, but its graphics performance and small monitor dissapoint.
