Gateway SX2800-01r Value PC

It's shaping up to be quite a rumble at the $500 value-PC price point, as the Gateway SX2800-01 ($499 as of February 1, 2010) offers performance nearly identical to that of the $520 HP Pavilion A6710t and the $499 Acer Veriton X270. However, while the...

Quad-core processor ; Good storage for its price

Compact design limits upgradability ; Poor gaming performance

If you aren't an upgrader or a gamer, you'll find a great deal to love about the SX2800-01r, Gateway's Budget Desktop offering.

Gateway SX2800-01

The Gateway SX2800-01 takes up little space without giving up any of the power that multimedia mavens expect these days.

Quad core power for $500. Compact form factor. eSATA and SPDIF ports. DX10-capable integrated graphics. HDMI port. More expansion space than rivals.

Loads of bloatware. Half-height expansion slots. Weak integrated graphics. Eject button hard to press.

Gateway SX2800-01 review: Gateway SX2800-01

Gateway SX2800-01

Sleek, compact design; best all-around performance among budget retail PCs; up-to-date motherboard outputs offer all kinds of connectivity options.

Memory slot access takes a few more steps than usual.

Gateway's SX2800-01 offers a strong combination of performance and features all wrapped up in a design that fully embraces the merits of a slim tower PC. We recommend this system to anyone looking for a fast, affordable desktop for the home office, the...

Great Deal

Small size of tower is nice. Plenty of USB ports on both front (5) and back (4).

Have owned for over 1 year and haven't had any problems. I mainly use it for day-to-day web browsing and document creation ; Upgraded the video card without issue. If you decide to upgrade cards, make sure they are low-profile so they fit. Power supply...

Two trivial notes ; CD-drive eject button requires ridiculous amounts of pressure to eject tray. On the plus side, you don't have to worry about someone accidentally bumping the eject button ; If you want to insert a mini-CD, you will have to turn the...

I love it!

Moving it to a antec 300 case buying and going to buy a new psu and gpu. Why a modem card? I used to have a SPARKLE SFPX95GT512U2L GeForce 9500 gpu in it but the gpu did break after a year and I was a idiot and pulled the serial number off when...

NEAR SILENT my psu doesnt make a noise at all onlything I hear is the fan pushing air, no vibration ; suprisingly good onboard gpu ; lots of usb drives

gpu is VERY limited and may overheat since it's at the very top of the case ; No wireless card - I bought an usb wireless card and it works fine ; DVD drive is loud when in use

Broken on arrival

Didn't have a chance to get it working, but was small and spacey

Didn't work on arrival, not sure if it was shipping or from production, possibly a video card malfunction

Excellent PC.

After the ATI Radeon 5570 graphics upgrade, the Gateway SX2800 can run most current games at 720p at 60 frames. Street Fighter IV, Devil May Cry 4 and Resident Evil 5 all run at 60 frames locked(w/ V-Sync on) or higher. Windows Experience graphics...

Fast Quad Core CPU ; Lots of connections, 7 USB, firewire, memory card reader, compact flash ; Upgradeable to low profile ATI Radeon 5570 graphics(DirectX 11 graphics card)

Had to buy a graphics card separate to get gaming performance, but the card was under $80 so its not too bad

Worth the Money

Bought this to replace my aging Intel/Gateway custom build, that was running my HTPC/Media Center. Coupled with an AverTVHD Duet, and an RCA digital antenna, 720p 2500 lumens projetor, and a Logitech Z-5500 surround, this machine performs quite well....

Small, Quiet, Versatile, powerful, Cost effective ; Optical Audio/5.1 (not 7.1 like the older rig) ; HDMI ; Upgradeable PCI-E x16, and x1 ; 5.25" optical drive, and 3.5" Hdd

Unknown (as of yet) Mainboard manufacturer. Though it appears to carry an intel designation ; Only 2 SATA connections. -1 half egg for this ; No CIR for inboard IR remote additions ; No DVI-D + HDMI (only VGA + HDMI) -1 half egg for this
