Apple iMac with Retina 5K Display (2017) review

Reliable and handsome, the Apple iMac with Retina 5K Display is a true classic.

Classic, handsome styling ; Good selection of high-speed connectivity ; 5K Retina display is still the best ; Solid processor performance

Poor hard drive performance ; Magic Keyboard and Mouse are underwhelming

Apple’s 27-inch iMac with Retina 5K Display remains the benchmark in all-in-one design, despite signs of age, and its display remains unmatched. Cupertino’s classic falls behind in performance, however, and can become incredibly expensive when...

Apple iMac 27-Inch With 5K Retina Display (2017)

The newest 27-inch Apple iMac is a gorgeous all-in-one with a brilliant display and a handful of modern upgrades at an appealing price. It's not revolutionary, but it's the best version of the iMac to date.

Sleek, trend-setting design remains. Stunning 5K display is brighter than before. Includes USB-C with Thunderbolt 3.

Rear-facing ports are inconvenient. Limited tilt and no height adjustment options.

That said, Windows-based desktops just keep getting better. The physical hardware is often as well designed, and there are important differentiators being added to the large-display designs. The HP Envy is more eye-catching with its huge curved display...

For the 2017 iMac 27, Apple doesn't mess with success

New components under the hood make for a faster iMac. But they're packed into the familiar chassis of yesteryear.

The Apple iMac's 27-inch 5K display remains the most color-accurate monitor we've seen thus far in an all-in-one, and performance is much improved. Plus it's got two USB-C/Thunderbolt connectors which can drive more external displays and faster file...

The overall design remains unchanged since 2014 -- including the inconvenient rear-mounted ports and SD slot.

The already impressive 27-inch 5K iMac gets some welcome spec upgrades for 2017, but rival Windows machines have closed the gap.

Apple iMac 27-inch (Core i5)

The Apple iMac 27-inch (Core i5) gives you speedy quad-core power, better 3D graphics, and the same large screen as the previous 27-inch (Core i7) for a couple hundred bucks less.

True quad-core power. Wireless keyboard/mouse. Mini DisplayPort in/out. Screen has 2,560 by 1,440 resolution. Large display. Green certifications. 802.11a/n 5GHz support

Still no Blu-ray drive. No eSATA. Card reader is SD/SDHC/SDXC only. Requires third-party adapter for HDMI or DVI

Apple iMac 27-inch with Retina 5K display (2017): CPU and GPU upgrades deliver better value for money

When the iMac was first launched, it was very much intended as an affordable home computer -- and, indeed, was often derided for its cute, candy-coloured design. In recent years, though, the iMac has gradually evolved into a professional-level graphics...

7th generation Kaby Lake CPU ; Improved GPU ; Brighter display ; Two Thunderbolt 3 ports

Poor upgradeability ; Only 8GB of RAM as standard ; Expensive build-to-order options

Apple iMac 27-Inch with 5K Display Review (2017): Serious Power

If you've been using an iMac for three years or more, the new 2017 model provides some compelling reasons to upgrade. The latest iMac delivers everything that was already great about past models — including a gorgeous 5K display, a sleek design and...

Speedy performance ; Plenty of graphics muscle ; Brilliant display ; Familiar iMac design

No touch option ; Awkward port placement ; Magic Mouse is inoperable when charging ; No height adjustment

The Apple 27-inch iMac with 5K Retina display is a must for photo and video editors, thanks to its stunning display and potent performance, but it's also a great choice for anyone who wants a capable desktop.

Review: Apple's 2017 27" 5K iMac impresses with truly powerful desktop-class graphics

Apple has radically overhauled its iMac lineup for 2017, giving its 27 inch Retina 5K models dedicated graphics driven by AMD Radeon Pro 570, 575, and 580 GPUs; a brighter display with enhanced P3 wide color; more powerful Intel Kaby Lake CPUs;...

The latest Kaby Lake iMacs deliver strong refinements to Apple's most popular desktop Mac line. Later this year, Apple will introduce at even higher end iMac Pro that goes even further, albeit at a premium price, starting at $5,000.

Best all-in-one desktop suitable for gaming

The new quad-core version of the Apple iMac is the fastest all-in-one desktop you can buy. It even beats some tower-based desktops in performance tests, and reviewers say it is the best choice if you want an all-in-one computer for serious...

Gorgeous high-resolution display, faster than any other all-in-one, good performance for gaming

Expensive, no Blu-ray drive, no HDMI port

Apple iMac 27-inch (Core i5) Review

Digital Trends published a Apple iMac 27-inch (Core i5) Review.

The Tuffwrap is a very nice case for the iPad and is my new favorite case. You may have issue with the design of the Tuffwrap if you use the screen lock a lot, but most will find the Tuffwrap is an excellent choice for protecting the iPad.
