Intel NUC 5i5RYH Mini PC Review

Small, yet good. Intel has offered small desktop PCs for a long time now. We wish to test their latest installment: the NUC with its brand-new Broadwell chip. In the following in-depth review, we will delve into its features and performance.

Attractive price-to-performance ratio, Good case, Nice connectivity, Decent performance, Various upgrade options, Compact power adapter, Low noise and temperature emissions

but performance throttling at full load., Graphics errors at high load., Glossy top attracts fingerprints and smudges

Small mini-PCs are proving that they have the right stuff and can beat conventional tower PCs in office use. In fact, home, office or internet use are all ideal for these small companions.

Intel NUC Kit (NUC5i5RYH) Mini PC

Intel is opening the door to innovators with this new NUC, allowing for third parties to print their own lids

Small size ; Good amount of ports ; Core i5 CPU ; Useful storage options

This PC isn't for everyone, and will mostly suit enthusiasts and businesses looking to build small yet potent computing solutions

This PC isn't for everyone, and will mostly suit enthusiasts and businesses looking to build small yet potent computing solutions

The target market is really anyone who has a need for a small computer that can offer Core i5 (for other models Core i7-class) processing power. Of benefit is the customisable RAM and storage, and we think that the idea of replaceable lids, not only...

Intel NUC NUC5i5RYH review

The Intel NUC platform has been around for a while and it's a favourite of mine when someone asks for a good HTPC platform (thinking as a consumer) or an all around desktop platform for business needs (meeting rooms? check, desk worker? check).

You can source the Intel NUC as a kit (where you add your own DDR3L SODIMM 1.35V memory modules and storage) or as a fully assembled device ready to use. Don't expect the size to be an indicative of price though, as a fully assembled Intel NUC-based PC...

Quite Fast and Easy to set up

After installing memory, SSD and HD it makes a nice little HTPC. Everything about this was just easy, Ran windows 8 pro for about a day and then updated to Windows 10 pro with no problems.

Had to buy a Mini HDMI to HDMI plug to attach to the cable I had on my TV. Not the most stable connection.

Great little machine,

Bought this 5i5RYH last November for $295(came with free 4Gb G-Skill Ram), couldn't be happier. Running Windows 10 on RAID 0 ( Samsung 250GB M.2 + Samsung 250GB 850 EVO ). 950 Read and 920 Write on Black Magic Speed and ASSSD test. Absolutely no issue....

Absolutely none.

FAST, TINY, and EASY!!!!!

First and foremost, I purchased the newer model (NUC 6i5syh) impulsively from Newegg and after reading an overwhelming amount of negative reviews, I cancelled the order and purchased this one....and I am SO glad I did. You may be looking into this...

Fast, perfect HTPC device, Boot Time, Tiny box, USB 3.0 ports, absolutely no tweaking required to get it up and running.

Mini HDMI port requires adapter - so add another $10

Still working well after 6 months - Ubuntu Linux

After 32 years of embedded software development on Bill Gates' DOS/Windows systems with their seemingly built-in planned obsolescence, lack of tools to figure out why the performance always degrades over time, constant and time-consuming updates and...

Quiet, Runs all of my embedded development IDE's flawlessly (Microchip, TI, Freescale, Eclipse), flawless driver support (so far) from Ubuntu, supports dual 25" monitors and the Microsoft Sculpt keyboard & mouse, plenty fast for my needs (I do not give...

My first NUC had an i3 CPU on it with a similar configuration to what I've described above. I could not get it to boot Linux off the internal SSD. I tried everything. It booted fine from USB. It appeared to be a BIOS problem. I returned it and...

Good looking and easy to use

It is very small in size which is what I am looking for and it has all the ports I need. Saves space compared to my mid-tower. It is of very good quality and very easy to set up

Haven't found one ...

So-So product. Died on me after 3 months

It is hard to say what is wrong. It won't even boot into BIOS so it is a hard failure of some kind. Replaced the SSD, Memory and power supply, none of which fixed the situation. Hopefully Intel will accept the return.

I like the NUC form factor. I have two other NUC machines and they have performed well.

This unit died on me after 3 months. Now I'm in the throws of trying to get it warranty replaced with not much satisfaction. I don't keep boxes after something has been working for a month. I'd need a storage unit alone for that if I did. Now, without...
