Small; good lens specs; appropriate mix of touch and button controls; HDMI output; excellent photo color, exposure.

Wide-screen LCD size misleading; touch-screen interface not for everyone; no optical zoom while recording movies.

The Canon PowerShot SD980 IS is a very good touch-screen camera for those on the fence about using a touch-screen camera.

The PowerShot SD980 IS masters the touch-screen shooting experience, but some wide-angle image-quality issues hold it back from excellence.

Responsive touch screen with intuitive interface. Fast shooting speeds. 720p30 HD video capture. 24mm wide-angle lens. Accelerometer-based navigation. Mini HDMI out.

Canon's PowerShot SD980 IS brings a 3.0 inch touch screen to the Digital ELPH lineup for the first time.

Good image quality ; Touch LCD is responsive ; 720p HD video

Lower res at 16:9 ; Video quality is average ; Somewhat expensive

It seems that noise suppression really kicks in at ISO 800. By ISO 1600, details are quite smudged. The thumbnail image at 800 and 1600 could be used, but a full-size image at ISO 1600 will certainly display some smoothed-over noise.
