Canon PowerShot ELPH 100 HS review: Canon PowerShot ELPH 100 HS

Canon PowerShot ELPH 100 HS

The ; is a very good value, offering good photo and video quality outside and indoors, lots of fun shooting modes, and decent shooting performance for its class.

The 100 HS' photos look soft, even at lower ISOs, and its autofocus is regularly inaccurate.

If you're after an inexpensive ultracompact with good low-light photos, the Canon PowerShot Elph 100 HS is one to get. But you'd better act fast.

Canon PowerShot Elph 100 HS

The Canon PowerShot Elph 100 HS is a good compact camera with plenty of features, but nothing about it is exceptional—including its photos.

Small, compact build. Dedicated low-light mode. Shoots 1080p video.

Average image quality and speed. Can't adjust zoom or focus in video mode.

Canon Powershot ELPH 100 HS Review

Canon has set the tone in the sub $200 category with an ultra-compact camera that is loaded with useful settings, offers appealing specifications, and delivers excellent photos in a wide variety of settings. Not to mention it boasts some excellent High...

Flash is quite weak (which is to be expected from a camera this small) ; The standard burst mode didn't live up to Canon's claim of 3.4fps ; Optical zoom can not be used while recording a video

Canon IXUS 115 HS Review

The Canon IXUS 115 HS (also known as the PowerShot ELPH 100 HS) is a new slim and stylish compact digital camera. Key features of the IXUS 115 include a back-illuminated 12.1 megapixel CMOS sensor, 4x 28-112mm lens with an optical image stabiliser, 3.4...

There's not a great deal here that we haven't already witnessed on the Canon IXUS 220 HS, and apart from a bigger screen and a lower price tag for this IXUS 115 HS, the two cameras are pretty much two tempting peas in the same tight pod. So, if getting...

Canon PowerShot ELPH 100 HS

The PowerShot 100 HS is an enjoyable pocket camera that defines what an inexpensive point and shoot should be. It's easy to recommend for anyone looking for a quality pocket camera for themselves or as a gift.

Small, smooth, and easily pocketable; Smart Auto makes scene choices for you; Big 3-inch LCD; Good 11x14-inch prints from ISO 100 to 800; Night Scene mode; Full HD video

Buttons could be small for some; Default color can seem muted; Function menu is less friendly than old design; Only digital zoom available in Movie mode

Canon's PowerShot ELPH models are generally easy to recommend; that's true with the Canon 100 HS. It's the year's easiest pick as a bargain all-around camera, with good looks and good image quality.

PowerShot ELPH 100 HS

. It features a 12.1 Megapixel CMOS sensor, a 4X optical zoom lens (28 - 112 mm equivalent), optical image stabilization, a 3-inch LCD display, plenty of point-and-shoot features, and Full HD video recording

Good photo quality, with slightly better low light performance than CCD-based predecessor ; Compact, stylish metal body, comes in five colors ; Optical image stabilization ; 3-inch LCD has average outdoor, very good low light visibility ; Smart Auto...

Images are slightly noisy at low ISOs ; Some highlight clipping and purple fringing at times ; Movie mode issues: optical zoom cannot be used, sound is monaural, and 24 fps frame rate isn't great for capturing fast-moving subjects ; Full resolution...

The Canon PowerShot ELPH 100 HS remains a very good choice for consumers looking for a compact and stylish camera that won't break the bank. It offers a solid design, tons of fun features, good photo quality, and Full HD movie recording. There are some...

Canon ELPH 100 HS / IXUS 115 HS

Like many budget models the movie audio is mono and you can't zoom the lens while filming, but impressively the actual movie quality itself on the ELPH 100 HS / IXUS 115 HS is the same Full HD 1080/24p as higher-end models. You also get the super slow...

Super-slim stylish compact design., 1080p24 HD movie mode., Scene mode movies and super slo-mo., Excellent image quality

Lengthy linear exposure mode menu., Average continuous shooting speeds., No optical zoom in video modes., Mono mic

Best budget digital camera

Sturdy build, full HD (1080p) video capabilities, very good in low-light situations, hDMI port for TV playback, lots of automatic features

Cramped control buttons, mediocre optical image stabilization, no optical zoom in video mode

Canon ELPH 100 HS

Lacks some hot-ticket extra features, but it's one heck of a camera for the money

Great color accuracy; Very effective noise reduction

Less bells and whistles than its siblings; Small body means cramped controls

Point-and-shoots tend to concern themselves with extra features to stand out from the dozens of choices. Touchscreens, long zoom-ranges, share buttons, and special effects are all well and dandy, but the Canon PowerShot ELPH 100 HS (MSRP $199) succeeds...

Canon IXUS 115 HS

Tiny, cheap, stylish and cheerful, this is the very definition of a great ultra compact camera.

Styish design, Tiny dimensions, Good image quality, Surprising number of features

Small size can make it cramped to use, Few manual controls, Somewhat pricey
