Canon EOS 30D 8.2 megapixel DSLR reviewed

Although not as much of an upgrade from the 20D as photography enthusiasts would have liked, the Canon EOS 30D DSLR nonetheless retains the quality performance...

EOS 30D SLR Digital Camera

It might be logical to assume that Canon's new EOS 30D digital SLR camera, successor to the company's popular EOS 20D, would pack a higher-resolution sensor. But such is not the case. The EOS 30D ($1499 as of March 21, 2006) provides the same imaging...

High quality RAW conversion Excellent interface

Software's RAW conversion is slow Auto-bracketing limited to three stops

Other important new additions include the ability to adjust ISO in increments of one-third stop; an ISO readout in the viewfinder, so you don't have to consult the LCD to change the ISO; an optional slower burst speed, which permits more shots in a...

Canon EOS 30D Review

The model line in which the EOS 30D sits has seen a total of five models, each offering either an upgrade in features, resolution or both. From the EOS D30 to D60 we saw a doubling in megapixel count as well as numerous feature upgrades, from the EOS...

Excellent resolution, very good per-pixel sharpness Good tonal and color response, same as EOS 20D 'Parameter 1' in Standard PS Now with four metering modes, spot metering very welcome Trademark Canon CMOS noise free images, remain detailed even at...

Average automatic white balance performance, still very poor under incandescent light AI Servo (continuous AF) interference banding issue (certain lenses, high sensitivities) Same old 'CF compartment door shuts camera down' issue Picture Style...

Maybe Canon do listen, with the i EOS 30D they have addressed no less than five of the 'Cons' from my EOS 20D review; Lack of spot metering, Fixed continuous shooting rate, Limited range of image parameter adjustment, Small LCD monitor and ISO...

Canon EOS 30D review: Canon EOS 30D

Canon EOS 30D

Excellent low-light performance; fast and responsive; straightforward controls; nice balance of features for both experienced and rookie photographers.

Pop-up flash casts shadow with some lenses; average battery life.

An excellent midrange digital SLR, the 30D has given way to its even more excellent successor, the 40D. However, it remains a great choice if you can find it at a good price.

Canon EOS 30D

The Canon EOS 30D has the perfect price point and features including excellent image quality to become the favorite Digital SLR for a significant number of photographers - amateur and professional alike. An incremental upgrade from the hugely popular...

If you have an older Digital SLR or one of the Digital Rebel models, this is a more substantial upgrade - One that should be considered carefully.

Canon EOS 30D review

There is always a tangible air of excitement when Canon introduce a new model. What has been changed this time? The buzz of rumours grew steadily throughout the weeks before the official introduction, and there seemed to be a relentless stream of...

With the arrival of the Canon EOS 30D model, we see Canon's fifth introduction in the popular D-SLR middle segment. It is admittedly somewhat confusing that its name is virtually identical to that of the first type: the Canon EOS D30. This is likely to...

Canon EOS 30D Digital Camera Review: Intro and Highlights

The Canon EOS-30D is the latest in Canon's broad line of digital SLR models, but it is more evolutionary than revolutionary, keeping most of what was excellent about its predecessor, the EOS 20D. Canon says they listened to feedback from 20D customers...

Numerous tweaks, user-interface, and functional improvements over EOS-20D, Excellent resolution, in-camera sharpening seems to have been tweaked slightly, Excellent color, very slightly more saturated than that of the 20D in its default mode (some reds...

No revolutionary changes, probably not worth the money as an upgrade for current 20D owners, Strong reds still get a bit oversaturated, Auto white balance is only average, camera has a hard time with strongly-colored light sources (miserable color...

Canon EOS-30D

Everything else on the 30D is unchanged. That includes the 8.2 Megapixel CMOS sensor, EF/EF-S lens mount, full manual controls (and then some), hot shoe and flash sync port, and USB 2.0 High Speed support

Excellent photo quality (with the right lenses) ; Very low noise, even at high ISOs ; Solid, well designed body; useful playback zoom buttons ; Large 2.5" LCD display ; Full manual controls, including nice white balance controls ; Robust performance,...

Images on the soft side straight out of the camera; some lenses just exacerbate the problem ; LCD not as bright/sharp as the one on the Nikon D200

The EOS-30D earns my highest recommendation, and it's right up there with the Nikon D200 as a best-in-class midrange D-SLR.
