Canon PowerShot ELPH 130 IS Review

There is still an audience that prefers small, easy-to-use point-and-shoot cameras, but there are better options than the PowerShot 130 IS.

When it comes to a simple point-and-shoot camera, it doesn’t get any more basic than the 130 IS. What you get for the slight premium is some style, an 8x optical zoom, and Wi-Fi. The 130 IS is ideal for people who want a small pocketable camera that’s...

Canon PowerShot Elph 130 IS

The Canon PowerShot Elph 130 IS features Wi-Fi and an 8x zoom lens, but for a few dollars more you can get a much better compact camera.

8x zoom lens. Sharp images. Wi-Fi.

Slow performance. Noisy images at moderate ISO settings. Video limited to 720p.

Performance and Conclusions The Elph 130 IS isn't the speediest camera on the block. It requires 1.9 seconds to start and capture a photo, and languishes for a full 2.3 seconds between shots. The shutter lag is 0.2-second, which is acceptably speedy....

Canon PowerShot ELPH 130 IS Review

There aren't a lot of above average or advanced features found in the Canon PowerShot ELPH 130 IS camera, but that may be a good thing. After all, Canon is aiming this model at beginning photographers looking for a good value in a basic camera, and by...

Extremely thin and lightweight camera ; Lens moves very fast through 8x optical zoom range ; Image quality is adequate for a beginner-level point-n-shoot camera, especially flash photos ; Images look very good in small prints and on computer screens ;...

Very limited manual control options ; Image quality doesn't support creating large prints ; No single feature really stands out about this camera ; Battery life is less than it should be ; Shot to shot delays could be much better, especially when using...

Canon IXUS 140 Review

The Canon IXUS 140 (also known as the Canon PowerShot ELPH 130 IS) is a new camera in the stylish IXUS range, featuring a 8x optical zoom lens with a focal range of 28-224mm. The 16 megapixel Canon 140 offers built-in wi-fi connectivity, the DIGIC 4...

The Canon IXUS 140 / ELPH 130 IS is the cheapest IXUS model that we've ever reviewed, but cheap thankfully doesn't mean nasty. The IXUS 140 is a stylish, well-built camera with the bonus of built-in wi-fi and GPS connectivity. You'd be hard-pushed to...

Canon ELPH 130 IS / IXUS 140

The Canon IXUS 140 / ELPH 130 IS is a 16 Megapixel point-and-shoot compact with an 8x optical zoom and a 3-inch LCD screen. The earlier 2012 IXUS / ELPH range was exclusively built around Canon's High sensitivity back-illuminated CMOS sensors, with...

8x stabilised optical zoom ; Built-in wi-fi and GPS via a smartphone ; Compact, lightweight and stylish

Older Digic 4 processor ; Lacks 1080p full HD ; Lacks movie digest mode ; Lacks stacking and burst shooting ; Noisy image quality

The IXUS 140 / ELPH 130 IS is one of three basic IXUS / ELPH models in the bottom half of the range. Until 2013, the entire IXUS / ELPH range carried the HS suffix and all had CMOS sensors paired with the Digic 5 processor. That meant that even the...

Canon IXUS 140 HS Review

The IXUS 140 HS at its modest price tag also snags the award for being the slimmest camera with an optical 8x zoom. The camera does come with a plastic build, but it feels rather good quality. The small 1/2.3-inch sensor does botch the details, which...

Extremely slim form factor, Time from off to shooting is very low, Wi-Fi on a budget

Auto-P Toggle switch is poorly built, Buttons slightly hard to press, Only 720p video, No physical Delete button

Canon PowerShot Elph 130 IS

The Canon PowerShot Elph 130 IS has an 8x optical zoom lens, a 16-megapixel CCD sensor and built-in Wi-Fi. It takes images of very good overall quality but has slow shooting speeds. High-definition video recording is also limited to only 720p resolution.

Sturdy, metal body, 8x zoom, Built-in Wi-Fi, Above average image quality

Slow shooting speeds, Below average video

Canon IXUS 140 review

Canon adds an affordable Wi-Fi-equipped model to its extensive IXUS lineup

Wi-Fi connectivity ; Small and sleek design ; Fast autofocus

Some fiddly controls ; Below-par low light performance ; Poor battery life

Unfortunately for the Canon IXUS 140, other similarly-specced cameras - including its own sibling the Canon IXUS 125 HS - just work better in a greater range of scenarios. These days, run of the mill compact cameras have to either perform very well...

Canon Ixus 140

The Ixus units are perhaps the best small camera range on the market, and while some may scoff – the size is everything group – just examine the results with any similar costing camera on the market and the results will show.

The Canon Ixus 140 compact digital camera measures 9.5x5.5x2cm when closed; the last can increase by 3cm when fully zoomed. It weighs only 132grams. Being an older user my brain says all cameras should be black; however the dark red of this unit almost...
