Canon PowerShot A550

Canon's fresh point-and-shoot snaps lovely shots quickly.

Produces sharp, clear shots. Great performance. Very little shutter lag. Has a glass viewfinder.

Recycle times were a little slow. Smallish LCD.

Canon PowerShot A550 review

Canon's PowerShot A550 is a simple, inexpensive 7-megapixel camera, and that's all it wants to be. While it has some nice features, it doesn't offer any outstanding, unique aspects that put it above any other camera in the field, and that's just fine....

Responsive performance; slightly above-average lens.

Images plagued with artifacts and fringing; small LCD.

This camera's low price tag and solid performance can help you forget that it doesn't have many bells or whistles.

Canon PowerShot A550 Digital Camera - Full Review

As we've come to expect from Canon's A-series, the PowerShot A550 is a great little digicam. Fairly frill-free, the Canon A550 still takes great shots with its 7-megapixel sensor. It has a satisfying 4x zoom, and is quite easy to use. The A550's...

High resolution with excellent image quality ; 4x zoom lens is longer than most in the category and offers excellent coverage ; Very good exposure accuracy ; Easy-setting scene modes ; Custom white balance ; Better-than-average exposure accuracy ;...

No manual control of aperture or shutter speed ; Slow flash recycle (10 seconds!) ; Non-articulating LCD makes it harder to take low level or above the crowd shots ; Limited override functions in AUTO and Scene modes ; No brightness adjustment for the...

Canon PowerShot A550

I hope that helped, at least a little bit

Very good photo quality, noise levels low through ISO 400 (in good light) ; Well built (for the most part) for the price ; Very good performance ; LCD visible in low light ; Some manual controls ; AF-assist lamp, good low light focusing ; Good movie...

Some corner blurriness ; Redeye remains a problem ; Small, low resolution LCD ; Can only record about 8 minutes of VGA video due to 1GB file size limit ; Flimsy door over memory card / battery compartment; plastic tripod mount ; Small memory card included

I pretty much snuck in all my complaints about the A550 in the preceding paragraphs. If you want a compact, easy to use camera with a little more zoom than usual, then I'd definitely recommend that you take a look at the PowerShot A550. If you want an...

Canon PowerShot A550

With a retail price of $199, the Canon PowerShot A550 falls into the budget point-and-shoot market. The digital camera promises improved ease-of-use and convenience, with features like AA battery power

The 7.1-megapixel digital camera offers decent resolution and more zoom than comparable cameras. The PowerShot A530 has a 4x optical zoom lens, along with the standard Canon optical viewfinder. The 2-inch LCD screen has limited resolution at 86,000...

Canon Powershot A550 Review

The Canon Powershot A550 is very similar to previous Canon A-series except for its lack of manual controls. Otherwise, it retains all the aspects that made other A-series cameras so popular: good image quality, ergonomics and speed of operation. When...

Good exposure and focus accuracy, Nicely saturated colors, Good image sharpness, Low image noise up to ISO 200, Good body ergonomics, Spectacular battery life

Mild barrel distortion at wide-angle, Strong vignetting, Very noisy ISO 800, Low resolution LCD, LCD difficult to see in very bright light, Some edge softness

Canon PowerShot A550

Read a digital camera review of the Canon PowerShot A550 on DigitalCameraInfo.com. Digital camera ratings, comparisons, reviews, and more.

With a $199 price tag, amazing performance can’t be expected from the A550. It does, however, meet the basic requirements of an adequate digital camera. It can take a picture when you want, where you want, and how you want. It doesn’t have much shutter...

Another great compact camera from Canon, the PowerShot A550 won't compare to some more high-end units, but considering the price tag and the features on offer, it's an excellent value-for-money product.

Great colour capture, Low price tag, 4x zoom, Fast operation, Sturdy design

Pictures perhaps not quite as sharp as they could have been
