The PowerShot G5 was announced at the beginning of June 2003, it is the five megapixel 'companion' (it doesn't directly replace) to the four megapixel PowerShot G3 (which wasn't called the 'G4' because of the similarity between the word '4' and 'die'...

One more note before I begin. Since the G5 is so similar to the G3, the text in both reviews will be similar. Rest assured that all sample photos and analysis is original -- I'm just trying to save some time

Excellent photo quality in most situations (though note issues below) ; Amazing expandability in terms of lenses, flashes ; Super fast performance ; 4X zoom a nice change from the usual 3X zoom ; CompactFlash Type II slot ; Impressive movie, playback...

Redeye worse than expected ; Too much purple fringing ; Lens blocks view through optical viewfinder at wide-angle setting ; Diopter correction knob difficult to operate ; The VGA movie mode found on other Canon cameras would be nice
