Canon PowerShot SD40 review

Change isn't always big. New versions of products aren't always massive, sweeping upgrades to their predecessors. A system pack, a bug fix, or a single handy new feature might be all a product gets. It might not be revolutionary, but at least it's an...

Small and stylish; comes with dock and remote.

Terrible image noise; remote control is almost superfluous.

Its small size makes it an attractive pocket camera, but its speed and image quality issues are too great to ignore.

Canon PowerShot SD40

The Canon SD40 Digital ELPH is the latest addition to their candy bar-sized lineup of cameras. Despite being tiny, the SD40 packs Canon's latest DIGIC III processor with face detection and a 7 megapixel sensor behind its lens. Still, some things just...

Less than average zoom with a slow lens, no optical image stabilization either ; Battery life isn't superb ; Dock required for USB, A/V and battery charging (external charger costs $40) ; LCD on the small side in year 2006 ; Weak flash ; No manual...

The Canon PowerShot SD40 Digital ELPH is a great camera at time when you don't want to lug that digital SLR around or even your mid-sized camera. It makes a good camera for those who want simple operation and a stylish camera.

Small design, Good colour

Noisy pictures, Only six scene modes

While the form factor of the IXUS i7 is quite appealing, the image noise has a severe impact on the picture quality.

Canon Digital IXUS i7 zoom

When you think of ultra-compacts, you think of slim, pocketable cameras. The Canon IXUS i7 breaks the norm and comes up with a cute candy bar model that boasts a number of impressive new features. But before we get there, a little more on its looks.

It may sound like the camera has a lot of negative points, but the fact is that none of them are significant enough to overcome the good points. In the end, the IXUS i7 is as small a cell phone and clicks better than a lot of cameras in its range. It...
