Canon Powershot SD450

Announced in August 2005, the SD450 (which goes by the name of Digital IXUS 55 in Europe) is the latest in a long line of ultra-compact 'ELPH' or 'IXUS' cameras stretching back to early 2000 (and a lot farther back than that in the film camera world)....

Very good resolution, Incredibly slim, compact design, Beautifully built and all-metal construction, Excellent color and white balance in most situations, Manual (custom) white balance, Good exposure and generally very reliable focus (using...

Fairly strong purple fringing, Some dynamic range issues (common to cameras using this sensor), Some edge and corner softness at wide angle/max aperture, Battery life when using LCD, No exposure information in record mode except when camera shake is an...

In an ideal world buying an ultra compact camera would not involve any compromise at all.

Canon PowerShot SD450 Digital Elph

The Canon PowerShot SD450 takes darn good shots but may be too diminutive for some shutterbugs.

Quick performance and excellent image quality. Unique "My Color" feature. Sleek and very portable.

A little tricky to operate with larger hands. Menus could be improved. No manual settings.

Canon PowerShot Digital Elph

Ultracompact design; long battery life; excellent burst capabilities; low shutter lag; versatile movie mode.

Few manual controls or scene modes; image quality is far from stellar.

Decent image quality and a well-rounded snapshot feature set make the high-performance ultracompact Canon PowerShot SD450 one of the better choices in the current Digital Elph lineup.

Canon PowerShot Digital Elph review

PowerShot SD500 Sony's form-over-function DSC-T1 stylistic imitators not

Very well designed; the best start-up time in its class; quick shot-to-shot performance; novel fast frame-rate movie mode.

More frequent than usual purple fringing; longish flash shot-to-shot times.

The Canon PowerShot SD550 is a very well-designed, 7-megapixel snapshot camera. Just don't look for advanced controls.

Digital Cameras - Canon PowerShot SD450 Digital ELPH Digital Camera Review, Information, Specifications

Widely available as of this writing for under $300, the Canon PowerShot SD450 is an excellent little pocket camera, with a full feature set, super build quality, great image quality, and the flexibility to bring back good-looking pictures from a wide...

Vibrant, appealing color, Good skin tones, Auto white balance handles a wide range of lighting well, Better than average exposure accuracy, Good lens, generally low distortion (some chromatic aberration at wide settings though), Good shutter response...

Very inaccurate optical viewfinder, Only white balance and EV compensation options in Manual mode, Shutter response at telephoto focal lengths is a little slow, Contrast is a little high, tends to lose highlight and shadow detail under harsh lighting,...

Canon PowerShot SD450

The Canon PowerShot SD450 Digital ELPH is not a major step up from the SD400. So current SD400 owners should not need to dump their camera for this one. Instead of major updates, the SD450 received only a few minor tweaks:

Ultra-compact and stylish ; Lens is probably the best among ultra-thin cameras ; Fairly powerful flash ; Great LCD performance ; Extremely fast ; Unlimited continuous shooting ; Excellent movie mode ; Improved user interface (Not as boring as the old...

Battery life needs to be improved (by a lot!) ; Included memory card is useless (Too small) ; No manual controls ; LCD is lacking resolution ; No special feature to counteract blurring during low-light shooting ; Red-eye ; Some soft photos ; Fairly...

The Canon PowerShot SD450 Digital ELPH is a nice camera - Compact, stylish and fast. It starts up almost instantly and shot-to-shot speed was good. The SD450 Digital ELPH also has one of the best lenses and flash units among ultra-thin cameras as well...

Canon PowerShot SD450

The Canon PowerShot SD450 is a pretty nice camera with some excellent features that many other competing cameras do not have. First off, it's got 5-megapixels and it shows! The body of the SD450 is about 3.5 x 2 x 1 inches and it has a curvy metal body...

Canon PowerShot SD450 Digital Elph Digital 5-Megapixel Camera Review

After Canon released the 5-Megapixel Canon PowerShot SD450, I decided to find out how much different it is from the Canon SD400. On the surface, it seemed that the only difference would be the larger LCD screen (2.5-inch vs. s-inch on SD400). I have...

I see not much difference between the SD450 and SD400, aside from the LCD screen size. Even the image quality was very similar. I recommend Canon SD450 if you want a miniature, cool yet capable camera with 5-megapixels that produces excellent photos...
