Canon PowerShot SX600 HS review

While Canon's PowerShot SX600 HS is an easy-to-use camera with a long 18x zoom, performance and image quality resembles those from a lower-end camera.

For $50 more than the ELPH 340 HS, you can get a similar camera with an increased zoom. However, that camera failed to impress us as much as its predecessor, the ELPH 330 HS. So, even though it may have a better lens, for us the SX600 feels nearly...

Canon's PowerShot SX600 HS picks up where your phone leaves off without sacrificing easy sharing

With its 18x zoom lens, simple straightforward automatic shooting, and built-in Wi-Fi, the SX600 HS does more than your phone without weighing you down.

The Canon PowerShot SX600 HS delivers easy automatic shooting options, very good photo and video quality, and a useful zoom range with optical image stabilization in a slim, lightweight package and at a reasonable price.

The lens is slow, so indoor use of the zoom lens is limited, the autofocus can be frustratingly inaccurate at times, and low-light photo and video quality are merely OK.

Though there's nothing extraordinary about it, the SX600 HS is a solid choice for snapshooters wanting a simple step up from a smartphone without sacrificing on-the-go sharing.

Canon PowerShot SX600 HS Black

Although Canon lists this model under its "high-end, advanced digital cameras," it's really not and has more in common with the camera maker's pocket-friendly Elph line. If perhaps you didn't consider the SX600 HS because it was listed as "advanced"...

Canon PowerShot SX600 HS

The Canon PowerShot SX600 HS is a slim camera with an 18x zoom lens and Wi-Fi, but its images are on the noisy side.

Sharp lens. Quick focus. 18x zoom range. Creative Shot function. Wi-Fi.

Noisy images. No high-speed burst shooting. Limited control when using Creative Shot.

You can also post images and video to Web sites, but you'll have to configure a few things first. The SX600 uses the Canon Image Gateway service to push images to Twitter, Flickr, Facebook, and others, and the first step is setting up an account there....

Canon PowerShot SX600 HS

Initial WiFi setup was not the easiest we have used.

Exposure and Color were accurate in all shooting modes ; Dedicated Video Capture Button is always ready to record ; Intelligent I.S. helps steady the camera while shooting on the go or in low-light ; Good overall image quality ; 460k dot LCD is great...

More noise than expected at all ISO settings ; Initial WiFi setup was not the easiest we have used ; Slow Flash recharge times

The Canon PowerShot SX600 HS is a very compact and versatile digicam. The HS system provides good performance and image quality, while all the built-in features increase versatility and functionality. Read more in our Full Conclusion.

Canon PowerShot SX600 HS Review

Canon's PowerShot digital cameras have been with us for a scarcely-believable eighteen years, and whilst the SX600 HS isn't intended to be the new flagship model in the range, it still packs quite a punch. Despite compact 103.8 x 61 x 26mm dimensions,...

There’s a lot to like about Canon’s latest midrange travel-zoom compact. The Canon PowerShot SX600 HS is a doddle to operate thanks to simple menus and sensible controls, plus autofocusing, exposure metering and auto white balance all perform admirably.

Canon PowerShot SX600 HS

The Canon PowerShot SX600 HS is a 16 Megapixel compact super-zoom with an 18x optical zoom range starting at a 25mm equivalent wide angle and extending to 450mm at the telephoto end. It sits more or less in the middle of Canon's 2014 SX super-zoom...

Canon PowerShot SX600 HS review

A reliable 18x zoom travel compact with a range of useful functions

18x optical zoom ; Wi-Fi / NFC ; Creative Filters

No touchscreen ; Lack of control in Creative mode ; Macro focusing sometimes disappointing

If you're looking for a reliable camera with a decent zoom range and that is capable of producing good quality images – without too much input from you – the SX600HS is a good option.
