Fujifilm X-A5

The Fujifilm X-A5 is an attractive mirrorless camera with very strong image quality, but it's held back by inconsistent autofocus performance.

Strong image quality. Bundled with compact power zoom lens. Built-in flash and hot shoe. Dual control dials. Flip-up touch LCD. Microphone input. Wi-Fi.

Inconsistent focus speed. 4K video limited to 15fps. No 30fps option for 1080p video. No EVF.

The Fujifilm X-A5 gives entry-level buyers access to the excellent X-mount lens system and brings very strong image quality to the table thanks to its 24MP image sensor and Fuji's processing engine. But despite including a lot of good features, like...

Fujifilm X-A5 Review

For those who want in on Fuji's X Series system without a big financial investment, the updated Fuji X-A5 makes a good entry point, especially if your priority is image quality. Offering a similar, but updated, 24MP Bayer-filtered APS-C sensor, the...

Impressive overall image quality; Excellent high ISO performance; Very good dynamic range from RAW files; Full HD video at 60 fps; Good battery life.

Slower-than-average AF speed; 4K video capped at 15fps; Very slow startup to first shot time with new power-zoom kit lens; Sluggish single-shot cycle times.

Fujifilm X-A5 Review: Mirrorless Camera Comes Up Short

With this camera's clunky, somewhat-dated menu system, slightly bulky camera-body design (at least with the kit lens), lackluster video features and inconsistent autofocus, it's hard to recommend the X-A5, even though it costs a bit less than most...

Takes good photos ; Relatively inexpensive ; Includes a built-in flash and hot shoe ; 3x optical power zoom ; Easy-to-use mobile app

Controls and settings should be better organized ; Touch-screen LCD doesn't swing out to side ; No electronic viewfinder ; Shoots 4K video at just 15 fps ; Sluggish autofocus in low light ; Bulkier than others (with kit lens)

The Fujifilm X-A5 has some good qualities and is a fairly capable camera, but it falls shy of what other entry-level mirrorless models do consistently.

Fujifilm X-A5

Fujifilm's entry-level mirrorless offering . Fujifilm X-A5.

Great image quality ; Generously featured for the price ; Stylish and easy to use ; Good variety of film simulation modes

No electronic viewfinder ; 4K video quality is underwhelming ; Kit zoom is fiddly and feels plasticky ; Some settings/features are buried within the menu

The Fujifilm X-A5 is an entry point into the company’s X-series lineup of mirrorless cameras. It’ll serve beginners well with good image quality, but does have some limitations and disadvantages that are worth taking on board before you buy it.

Fujifilm X-A5 review

  (Rating Hidden)

Replacing the older X-A3, the Fujifilm X-A5 is the company's smallest and lightest X-series mirrorless camera to date. It includes a refined 24Mp APS-C sensor and an ISO range that extends to ISO12,800. But does this equate to high-quality photos and...

Fujifilm X-A5 Entry-Level Mirrorless Camera Review

Read our review of the X-A5, Fujifilm's budget 24mp APS-C Fujifilm X-Mount camera, with 4K video (at 15fps), a tilting touch-screen and built-in Wi-Fi.

The Fujifilm X-A5 is capable of taking sharp detailed photos, with excellent colour reproduction, thanks to Fujifilm's trusted colour technology. The lack of an X-Trans sensor isn't as big an issue as you'd think, as APS-C CMOS quality is very good...
