Kodak EasyShare P880 reviewed

LetsGoDigital has a review up for Kodak's classy 8 megapixel shooter, the EasyShare P880. They find it to be a good middle ground between easy to use consumer cameras and those pricey, but feature laden, D-SLRs. We covered the basics when we...

Kodak EasyShare P880

Though the Kodak P880 comes with several fancy features, it comes up short on some of the basics.

Wide-angle end of the zoom gives you a wide (24mm) view. Good video capabilities, with zooming. Precise control with zoom ring.

Noticeable shutter lag. Picture sharpness could be better. Flash shots so-so.

Kodak EasyShare P880 Review

In August 2005 Kodak announced a new class of 'advanced digital cameras' with the introduction of the P series, which it hopes will provide an alternative to entry-level DSLRs. The first two models are the EasyShare P850 (reviewed December 2005), and...

Excellent color, good resolution Generally very good exposure Very useful - and pretty much unique - 24-140mm zoom range Manual (mechanical) zooming Manual focus ring Sharp lens, good edge-to-edge consistency even at 24mm Lens thread for optional...

Focus slow in low light and at long end of zoom Flash won't fire when battery is low, but picture still taken Occasional focus errors at long end of zoom ISO 400 JPEGs quite soft due to noise reduction ISO 800 and 1600 only available at 0.8MP...

The two cameras in the new EasyShare 'P' range are superficially very similar, yet in many respects they are like chalk and cheese. Where the inherent problems of a soft lens and noisy sensor meant Kodak had to process the P850 images to within an inch...

Kodak EasyShare P880 review

Kodak EasyShare P880

Very wide (for digital) 24mm lens; user-friendly and comfortable SLR-like body design; solid shooting speed in JPEG format.

Photo quality unacceptable for an advanced amateur camera; raw implementation close to useless; slow shooter when using uncompressed file modes.

The Kodak EasyShare P880 is a user-friendly camera with a wide-angle lens and pedestrian photo quality that will either please or frustrate users, depending upon their needs.

Kodak EasyShare P880 review

So-called hybrid digital cameras still are a popular class amongst digital cameras although pressure is rising because of the continuing decrease in prizes of digital reflex cameras. The notable advantage of a hybrid camera is the combination of two...

With the Kodak EasyShare P880 Kodak successfully launched a camera that reminds us to the SRL camera. The P-series are the cream of the crop of the EasyShare line as is demonstrated by the Kodak P880. Its high level of completeness and its impressive...

Kodak EasyShare P880 Digital Camera Review: Overview and Highlights

The Kodak EasyShare P880 is the latest in a long line of digital cameras that has proven popular and very user-friendly throughout its history. Kodak's EasyShare line of digital cameras live up to the "Easy" part of their name, as they're among the...

Quality feel and build, Nice, big LCD display, Excellent, mechanically operated zoom lens, very fast, precise and smooth zooming, Zoom range gives that something extra necessary for great photography: 24mm wide angle (and 140mm is a nice telephoto...

Shutter lag is too long for sports shooting, Corners of the frame get softer at telephoto focal lengths, Focus is problematic in even moderately dim lighting with AF assist light turned off, Low light AF is slow, even with AF assist light, Built-in...

Camera Test: Kodak EasyShare P880

Let's make something clear: this is not your mom's Pocket Instamatic. The EasyShare P880 is an 8MP electronic viewfinder camera with a 24-140mm equivalent f/2.8-4.1 Schneider zoom, dedicated TTL flash shoe, RAW capture, and tons of control. In other...

Kodak EasyShare P880

While most of Kodak's cameras tend toward the lower end, the P880 competes with the best fixed lens cameras out there -- and maybe some entry-level D-SLRs too. How does it perform? Find out now in our review

Very good photo quality ; Impressive 24 - 140 mm lens ; Manual zoom and focus rings ; Large 2.5" LCD display (though see issues below) ; Full manual controls and then some ; RAW & TIFF image support (though see issues below) ; Custom button on top...

Performance sluggish in some areas: focusing, burst mode, RAW/TIFF shot-to-shot speeds ; Mac version of EasyShare software can't edit RAW images (use Photoshop CS2 if you have it) ; High ISO sensitivities only available at 1024 x 768 resolution ; Low...

Despite a few annoyances, the P880's positives far outweigh its negatives, and it gets an easy recommendation. If you want more wide-angle in your life, you should definitely take a look at this camera.
