Kodak's EasyShare V610 10x ultra-zoom reviewed

The EasyShare V610 is Kodak's ultra-zoom followup to their world's first, dual-lens digital cam, the V570. Unfortunately, just like its wide-angle bro, the V610 is getting a mixed reaction from reviewers. DCRP got their hands on the V610 and were...

Kodak Easyshare V610 Camera

With a long-range 10X optical zoom, Kodak's sleek EasyShare V610 can bring the farthest subjects into full, detailed view. Unfortunately, this $449 (as of 6/15/06) dual-lens camera also has a propensity for blurred photos at its highest zoom levels,...

Fun to use Long-range zoom

Short battery life Short battery life Sensitive to camera movement

Still, what makes this camera shine--10X zoom, compact design, Bluetooth, photo-stitching, and ease of use--just may be enough to compensate for its shortcomings. It's a reasonable choice for casual photographers

The V610 is fun to use and has a 10X zoom and Bluetooth, but is sensitive to camera movement and battery life is short.

Kodak EasyShare V610

The Kodak EasyShare V610 has a lot going for it, but blurring boundaries isn't always the best thing for a digital camera.

Very sleek. Nice video features, with MPEG-4 encoding. Cool Bluetooth features.

Expensive. Mediocre picture quality. Some autofocus problems.

Kodak EasyShare V610 review

intro With the EasyShare V610, Kodak takes its innovative dual-lens camera design to its logical conclusion. The company pairs a typical compact-camera 38mm-to-114mm zoom lens with a second 130mm-to-380mm lens, for an effective 10X optical zoom range;...

Small size for 10X optical zoom; innovative dual-lens design; plenty of scene modes; in-camera panorama stitching.

Average image quality; no image stabilization; few manual controls; no manual white balance.

As one of the only pocketable cameras with a 10X zoom lens, the Kodak EasyShare V610 is on the cutting edge of design; we just wish the image quality were better.

Kodak Easyshare V610 Review

Announced in April 2006, the EasyShare V610 is Kodak's second 'Dual Lens' model, using two lenses (and two CCD sensors) to give an extended zoom range without adding to the bulk of the camera. In the case of the V610 the lenses cover 38-114mm and...

Superb styling, build and finish Uniquely compact 10x zoom camera Carry-anywhere model that is truly pocketable Decent resolution Easy to use, novices will appreciate the integration with EasyShare software Bluetooth file transfer Large, bright screen...

Wide zoom lens is soft in the corners More distortion in the center of the zoom range than with a single 10x zoom Zoom mechanism annoyingly slow Live preview resolution low Slow - and occasionally unreliable - focus at the long end of the zoom No...

People who buy iPods are often mocked for ignoring cheaper, more capable MP3 players because they like the shiny white box and 'no need for a manual' interface. It's easy to forget sometimes that some people also buy cameras based more on their looks...

Kodak EasyShare V610 review

When the first rumours about a new Kodak EasyShare dual lens camera with CCD went around, the attention was drawn quickly. Indeed, Kodak introduced a digital camera with these techniques not long afterwards. The EasyShare V570 was a camera which had an...

We got acquainted with the dual lens concept of Kodak before with the EasyShare V570. The emphasis was then on ultra wide-angle and less on telephoto. With the Kodak EasyShare V610 Kodak has changed tack and thrown itself on to the telephoto range. The...
