Kodak EasyShare Z8612 IS

If you're a digital camera user who still begrudges the loss of your film-based unit, Kodak's latest advanced camera, the EasyShare Z8612 IS, should s...

Big zoom, optical image stabilisation, retro design

Chromatic aberration issues, colours inaccurate, sluggish at times

Kodak's EasyShare Z8612 IS has a few things going for it, including a large zoom that is backed up by optical image stabilisation. However, its images exhibit a fair bit of fringing and it can at times be quite slow.

Kodak EasyShare Z8612 IS

The Kodak EasyShare Z8612 IS has trimmed off every gram of fat, but the 12x zoom lens overbalances the camera. It oozes understated élan and even has some clever features, but the performance isn't quite there.

Clever video options ; Classy styling ; Simple controls

Flat buttons ; A couple of design quirks ; Traces of barrel distortion

We take this 12x optical superzoom for a test drive

Yes, this camera is cheap and offers a massive zoom, but there are other models out there for even less, which will perform better

Kodak Easyshare Z8612 IS

The Kodak Easyshare Z8612 IS is a super zoom digital camera. It has manual exposure controls and image stabilisation. It is also smaller than most super zoom digital cameras. I found the camera straightforward considering the features it has.

Small for a super zoom camera - easier to use than most similar models

Build quality does not match some of the more sturdy super cameras - picture quality

Although this is one of the cheaper and easier super zoom models picture quality falls short. I struggled in most areas and there are many better super zoom cameras for you to consider.

Don't buy this camera!!

And the lens cap always comes off. WTH?? I've owned a number of cameras; expensive, cheap, and moderate, and never been so disgusted with their inability to execute on this simple thing. It's like they put their worst guys on this camera. Really, how...

Great pictures, large LCD screen ; I made the mistake of buying this camera sight unseen and without reading the reviews ; First, the good: takes wonderful pictures. I had an olympus 3.2mp 10x optical zoom camera. this one beats it in all modes I've...

It takes 2 AA batteries. It eats them. Nope, rechargeable Nimh won't work. Not even the high capacity ones; too much power draw. You MUST use the lithium ion ones. Yeah, the $2 each AA lithium battery. Stupid engineers ; The reason it eats them is the...

good optics, Battery HOG!!

I got it for $140 with a free $99 printer after rebate. Not sure it's worth it because of all the batteries I'll have to lug around just to keep it working...

It's a lightweight, but also plastic body, relatively small 12X optical zoom camera w/ 8.1mp

You have to use the large LCD display to take pictures. I've never liked doing that ; ALSO, as a result the battery life is ~30 pictures (yes, THIRTY) under normal usage for a NiMh 2350 mah pair of batteries and less than that for name brand, high...
