Kodak EasyShare Z981 review: Kodak EasyShare Z981

The Kodak EasyShare Z981 feels like an afterthought in the company's camera lineup. It was released at CES 2010 but was not part of the fanfare for its other models announced at the same time. The only thing that seems to tie the Z981 to the rest of...

Very good built-in sharing software; cheap.

Basic options missing; mediocre photo quality.

The Kodak EasyShare Z981 has attractive specs and pricing, but falls too short on photo quality to recommend it.

The sensors in these cameras are considerably smaller than you will find in a DSLR or mirrorless interchangeable lens model. One of the advantages of a smaller sensor is that, compared to an SLR, you need a physically much smaller lens. As you can see...

Kodak EasyShare Z981 Review

The Kodak EasyShare Z981 is a new super-zoom digital camera that looks and feels just like a DSLR. Replacing the Z980 model, the Z981 features an even bigger 26x, 26-676mm lens complete with built-in optical Image Stabilizer. The 14 megapixel Kodak...

The Kodak EasyShare Z981 is one of the more chunkier and robust examples of the bridge camera currently out there; in fact it's a bit of a brick. But despite its relatively simplistic layout we didn't unfortunately find it the most user friendly with...

Kodak EasyShare Z981 camera

Want to take pictures of skittish wildlife like an expert "twitcher" or cheating partners unawares, paparazzi style? Kodak's current big zoom bridge model in the 14-megapixel EasyShare Z981, offering a 26x optical reach equivalent to a whopping...

The expansive zoom range, and the fact the full optical reach is accessible when shooting HD movies as well as 14- megapixel stills

Sluggish writing times, over exposed and over saturated images, chunky size comparable to a baby DSLR

Delivering overly-bright colours at times, plus some quite pronounced barrel distortion and overall softness, results from the Z981 seem somehow to add up to less than the sum of its individual parts, more impressive on paper than in practice. Build...

Consumer review (cnet.com)

Great camera, manual is easy to use.

all in all I love this camera it is the best one I've ever had. I've had it for almost 3 yrs and I'm just now starting to have issues with it. Its coming up with a msg that the camera is to hot and shuts off just after I turn it on, just after I...

takes great pictures, manual setting is easy to use and set you can get pictures of the moon and stars with this camera, great portrait photos and macro is great too. All in all well worth the money. Wish more cameras were like this one.

reds are not natural and way to bright, the battery door is hard to close, sometimes its hard for the camera to focus either in macro (you can't zoom much) or in landscape mode you can't zoom either.

"Excellent long zoom and all-in-one camera for beginners"

Initially I was determine to buy Powershot SX500IS, however the retail sales assistant showed me 2 images took by both Powershot SX500IS and EasyShare z981 respectively. I was amazed by how sharp the images from EasyShare z981 turn out to be in zoom...

Amazing sharpness for zooming capability and macro mode. Flash proves to be outstanding for night mode. EVF mode during daylight. Intuitive and user friendly design with portrait mode capturing. Default settings for p, a, s and fast capture.

A lot of noise for video mode at night, but it provides very smooth playback. Also, noise in darker and low light conditions are pretty obvious. Camera design (appearance-wise) is really not outstanding.
