Minolta DiMage 7

Unlike most 4- and 5-megapixel digital cameras, which are evolutionary improvements on previous, lower-resolution models, the Minolta DiMage 7 is a completely new product that incorporates advanced features and raises the bar for the competition....

Minolta DiMAGE 7 Review

We first heard of the two new Minolta DiMAGE 5 and 7 digital cameras at PMA on 11th February this year (although there had been leaked information earlier). Both cameras are based on the same functionality, body and 7x optical zoom lens, the DiMAGE 5...

Detailed images deliver good resolution Once converted to sRGB colour space images show excellent, vivid colour Big 7x optical zoom provides a lot of flexibility, especially useful 28 mm wide angle Lens is good quality, very little chromatics, little...

Sometimes slow AF can frustrate Very power hungry, requires multiple sets of spare batteries Camera can get hot around hand grip (CF compartment area) Burst frame rate (1.2 fps) a bit of a disappointment Image noise levels about the same as 3 megapixel...

Minolta Dimage 7 Digital Camera Review: Intro and Highlights

Minolta Corporation is a traditional camera manufacturer of long experience, making a slow but calculated entry into the digital marketplace. Like its popular line of 35mm SLRs, the Maxxum Series, Minolta's Dimage Digital Cameras are developing a...

Of course, the big story with the Dimage 7 is its resolution. With a 5.2 megapixel CCD, it has dramatically more pixels than the by-now-standard 3.3 megapixel cameras and even trumps 4 megapixel designs by a good 25%

Minolta DiMAGE 7

What's in the Box

Excellent photo quality (after a run through DiMAGE Image Viewer) ; Tons of manual controls ; Most impressive 7X zoom lens ; Backlit LCD info display ; Best EVF out there ; Support for lens filters and flashes ; Uses AA batteries instead of something...

Hard to learn & use ; Need to run images through Image Viewer for optimum color ; Auto focus is poor in many situations ; Drinks batteries ; No sound in movie mode ; Feels cheap for its price

Update 12/14/01: The price of the DiMAGE 7 has come down considerably, making it more appealing. Would I buy it over the Sony F707? Probably not. But take a look at it, by all means.

Minolta Dimage 7 Digital Camera Review

The Minolta Dimage 7 is a mid-size $900 5-megapixel digital camera with a 28-200 (35mm equivalent) macro zoom lens (f/2.8-3.5). The camera is arranged rather like a zoom-lens reflex, e.g., the Olympus E-10/E-20. However, instead of a mechanical mirror...
