Konica Minolta DiMage X50

It may not be as small as other ultracompacts, but it holds its own in design, features, performance, and overall image quality.

Non-protruding zoom lens; sliding lens-cover design protects the lens well. Key Function feature is very handy for quickly adjusting one setting. Very good exposure. Crisp images. Fairly quick performer. Sliding USB port cover.

Construction feels a bit cheap. Macro mode automatically goes to maximum telephoto. Image becomes hard to distinguish while zooming. Slide-show transitions don't work unless you reboot the camera after shooting. Accessing some scene modes can be tricky.

Konica Minolta Dimage X50 review

Konica Minolta Dimage X50 Konica Minolta's ever-fashionable X series climbs the resolution ladder with the addition of the 5-megapixel Dimage X50 to its stable of small and swift ultracompacts. And like its siblings, the X50 is a great take-everywhere...

Easy to use; speedy; in-camera editing and resizing features.

SD slot cover stiff to open and close; visible image noise at ISO 50; limited movie options.

A slim, stylish ultracompact that's as easy on the eyes as it is to use.

The Konica MinoltaDiMAGE X50 is very much a Jekyll and Hyde camera, with Jekyll representing the excellent handling and ease-of-use and Hyde the poor image quality. I really wanted this camera to deliver great images, as I enjoyed using it so much....
