Nikon Coolpix 5600

The 5600 is light and fun to use, but we take issue with its image quality and speed—specifically recycle time.

Nicely designed. Compact form factor. Has 16 easy-to-use scene modes.

Terribly slow recycle time. Small LCD. Problems with picture quality.

Nikon Coolpix 5600 Digital Camera Camera

Both novice and experienced digital photographers will appreciate the Coolpix 5600's intuitive controls. Measuring 3.4 by 2.4 by 1.4 inches, the 5600 fits easily in your right hand. Some features, like the scene-mode selection wheel, cater to casual...

Some of the Coolpix 5600's bonus features--such as the ability to create Sepia-tone or black-and-white snaps--seemed gimmicky, but Nikon's D-Lighting option (which instantly brightens overly dark snapshots) worked very well. The Coolpix doesn't include...

Nikon CoolPix 5600

The Coolpix 5600 is a compact, lightweight digital still camera with 5-megapixel effective image resolution and a Nikkor 3x zoom lens. It's an easy-to-use, entry-level model with superior image quality that is priced at less than $300.

Bottom line - Aimed toward the beginner and intermediate user, it offers terrific images without having to fuss with complicated settings. Its 5-megapixel Fine images have sufficient resolution to create photo-quality prints up to 11x14-inch, or cropped p

Digital Cameras - Nikon Coolpix 5600 Digital Camera Review, Information, Specifications

Nikon's Coolpix line of consumer digicams has always been well-received, appreciated for their image quality and ease of use. The Coolpix 5600 continues that trend, offering a 5.1-megapixel CCD and nice range of preset scene modes. The Nikon Coolpix...

High saturation on bright colors, but good handling of skin tones. Very pleasing color overall, Excellent macro capability, flash works well up close too, Manual white balance option handles a very wide range of lighting conditions, Better than average...

Limited low-light exposure capability, Relatively poor low-light autofocus performance, no AF-assist lamp, Auto white balance leaves too much color cast in shots under household incandescent lighting, Ships with only 14MB internal memory, definitely...

Nikon Coolpix 4600/5600

This review is different than most here at the DCRP since I'll be covering two cameras in one review. For all the product shots I used the Coolpix 4600 as the "model". For the test photos I used one or both of the cameras, and I'll make clear which one...

Good photo quality ; Compact body feels solid for the price ; Tons of scene modes ; Useful D-Lighting, Best Shot Selector, redeye reduction features ; Good redeye test results (probably due to above) ; In-camera help system (though it could be better)...

Poor low light focusing / no AF-assist lamp ; LCD doesn't "gain up" very much in low light ; Only 14MB on built-in memory ; VGA movie mode isn't really VGA; only the Coolpix 5600 records sound ; Sluggish flash recharge time ; Manual controls would've...

While both cameras are decent and earn my recommendation, here's what I'd do: skip both the 4600 and 5600 and get the Coolpix 5900 instead. While I haven't completed my review of that camera yet, I found it to be much better in many areas, most notably...
