Nikon Coolpix P7000 review: Nikon Coolpix P7000

Nikon Coolpix P7000

A nice set of shooting-focused features; optical viewfinder and built-in neutral density filter; very good photo quality for its class; comfortable, relatively streamlined shooting design.

Relatively slow raw shooting.

The Coolpix P7000 is a fine camera that lots of enthusiasts will appreciate for its smart shooting design, interesting feature set, and worthy photo quality.

Nikon Coolpix P7000 review

Nikon allowed two years to lapse between the Coolpix P6000 and its successor, the Coolpix P7000, and, to its credit, the P7000 was a complete reworking of the P6000 rather than just an update. The most notable step is a welcome return to a...

Nikon Coolpix P7000

When you're behind the lens of the 10-megapixel Nikon Coolpix P7000 ($500 as of January 3, 2011), you almost feel like you're at the helm of a jet. The camera is peppered with physical buttons, offering fast access to manual settings via a cockpit-like...

Superior image quality with very sharp photos ; Optical viewfinder ; Excellent macro mode ; In-camera editing and enhancement tools ; 7.1X optical zoom (28mm to 200mm) ; Buttons provide fast access to manual settings

Control complexity may intimidate casual users ; Disappointing video quality ; Maximum aperture of F2.8 ; A bit bulky

The Coolpix P7000 combines great image quality, extensive manual controls, and a 7.1X-optical-zoom lens. DSLR owners should feel at home, but the unit's button-heavy interface may intimidate novices.

Group test: Canon Powershot S95, Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5, Nikon Coolpix P7000

All three of these cameras share a similar design philosophy, being relatively small and compact while offering a high level of manual control. All are built to a high-quality, and all three boast high-end lenses with relatively fast aperture,...

Nikon Coolpix P7000 Preview

Today, Nikon announced the Coolpix P7000, a prosumer digital camera that fills the gap between point and shoots and DSLRs. The P7000 sports very extensive manual controls for the SLR user, yet still attempting to keep it simple for the average consumer...

Nikon Coolpix P7000 Review

The Nikon Coolpix P7000 is a the new flagship model in Nikon's extensive range of Coolpix compact digital cameras. The Coolpix P7000 is the successor to the one-year-old P6000, but it offers a new design and extra features that make it a completely...

The Nikon Coolpix P7000 is something of a flawed gem. While we love the handling, with its wealth of clever external controls, and the excellent image quality, the painfully slow RAW processing speeds are a real let-down for a camera that purports to...

Nikon P7000

If you did a double-take the first time you saw the Nikon Coolpix P7000, don't worry, there's nothing wrong with you. This new flagship compact camera from Nikon does, indeed, look a lot like its closest rival, the Canon Powershot G12. And while it...

Generous zoom range for class ; Optical image stabilization ; Comfy, compact design that feels good in your hand ; 3-inch, 921,000-dot LCD ; Optical viewfinder ; Very fast autofocus lag ; RAW support ; 720p HD videos with stereo sound ; Stereo mic jack...

Unoriginal design; too closely resembles Canon's latest G-series cameras ; Slow cycle times and burst rate ; Camera is unresponsive while writing to card ; Unacceptably slow shot-to-shot and buffer clearing times when shooting RAW (improved...

When compared to the G12, the only thing it's missing is a dedicated ISO dial and an articulating LCD. Otherwise, the Nikon P7000 has a good quality sensor, high ISO capability, a great lens--one that exceeds the zoom length of the G12--as well as...

Coolpix P7000

($499 MSRP) is Nikon's flagship compact camera. It features a larger-than-average 10 Megapixel CCD, a 7.1X (28 - 200 mm) lens with image stabilization, a large and sharp 3-inch LCD, full manual controls, plenty of optional accessories, and HD movie...

The Coolpix P7000 is one of a very select group of cameras, all of which have wide-angle lenses, high sensitivity sensors, and manual controls. In this group, the P7000's battery life is just a bit above average

Review: Nikon Coolpix P7000

Nikon leaps into competition for semi-pro compact cameras.

Good low-light shooting ; Solid 7X lens ; Optical viewfinder ; Lots of simple control dials ; Comfortable in the hand ; Hot shoe and lens adapter support ; Reasonably good 720p video ; Horizon level

Occasionally difficult menu system ; No swivelling LCD ; Needed to do more to stand out ; No built-in, wired commander mode ; Dodgy camera strap

Design and controlsWe've been here before. The P7000 is one of the new breed of retro-styled point and shoot digital cameras that bears a passing resemblance to such 35mm film classics as Leica M-series cameras, as well as recent examples by Cont
