Nikon Coolpix P90

The 24X-optical-zoom, 12-megapixel Nikon Coolpix P90 ($400 as of 11/22/09) is a powerful camera that offers full manual controls, a tiltable LCD screen, and the easiest operation we've seen in the megazoom class.

Excellent zoom lens and ease of use ; Superb macro capabilities ; Adjustable LCD for odd-angle shots

Standard-definition video only ; Plastic build; pop-up flash feels fragile ; Not as many fun features as competitors

The 24X-optical-zoom Nikon Coolpix P90 concentrates on ease of use and manual controls, leaving the wow-factor extras to competitors.

Nikon Coolpix P90 review

Nikon joins the ranks of manufacturers ramping up their top-of-the-line megazoom models to 24x. The replacement for the Nikon Coolpix P80 , the P90, outzooms its 18x predecessor with a 24x f2.8-5 26-624mm-equivalent lens, and outpixels it by upping the...

Relatively speedy; tiltable LCD; two custom settings slots on mode dial.

Subpar photo quality; poor battery life.

While the Nikon Coolpix P90 brings its performance up to speed with the rest of its class, it now falls behind in photo quality.

Nikon Coolpix P90 review

The Nikon P90 is one of the latest mega-zoom cameras from the Coolpix stable. On one hand, the mega-zoom camera finds itself under pressure, mainly due to the appearance of the entry-level digital SLR camera. On the other hand however, this type of...

There is a significant amount of mega-zoom cameras available to the consumer. The Nikon Coolpix P90 must therefore really distinguish itself from the masses. Moreover; the expectations of a "real" Nikon camera are often higher than average. There is no...

Nikon Coolpix P90 Review

The Nikon Coolpix P90 is the successor to Nikon's first ever super-zoom compact camera, last year's P80 model. The 12 megapixel P90 offers a number of significant upgrades, most notably the incredible 24x wide-angle zoom lens which provides a massive...

The Nikon Coolpix P90 is an kind of camera, offering an attractive overall package but ultimately falling short in certain key areas when compared to its main rivals. The 24x zoom lens is the main highlight, stretching all the way from 26mm wide-angle...

Nikon Coolpix P90

The Nikon Coolpix P90 packs a 24x lens and a fair degree of manual control into an ultrazoom with a $400 price tag.

The obvious standout feature of the P90 is its huge zoom lens range, which provides the equivalent of 26mm-624mm on a 35mm camera. That's a substantial wide-angle along with the fantastic telephoto capability. The P90 also comes jam packed with a high...

Nikon P90

The 24x lens is impressive, but other cameras have better features and performance

Decent color accuracy; Full manual controls

Serious resolution issues; Poor video performance

The Nikon Coolpix P90 is a good camera, with a reasonable price point for an ultrazoom camera. However, it comes into a market that is rife with competition, and doesn’t fare well by comparison. When we subjected it to our battery of tests, we were...

Nikon Coolpix P90 Review

Nikon's latest entry in the ultrazoom class is a capable instrument that can stand toe-to-toe with its competitors in most categories. AF acquisition time, shutter lag, image quality, color and ISO performance are all on a par with the other guys....

Good image quality and color, Good AF acquisition performance in good light, Good shutter response

Lens susceptible to chromatic aberration, particularly at telephoto end, Battery life somewhat limited

One of the fastest growing segments in digital photography is the "super zoom" category. These cameras, with lenses greater han 18X, offer an incredible zoom range in fairly compact bodies. If you even could, an equivalent lens for a digital SLR would...

None of the cameras include memory cards. Instead, they have memory built right in, ranging from 22MB on the Olympus to 47MB on the Kodak and Nikon. You'll certainly want to add more memory, and all of the cameras except for the SP-590UZ support SD and...
