Nikon Coolpix S51 Compact Digital Camera

Above-average image sharpness, but overall image quality was a bit below average. Battery life was poor in our tests.

Very thin ; Large LCD

Tiny buttons for zoom and other controls ; Slow to lock focus in low light

At first glance, the Coolpix S51 looks like an appealing package--especially at $280. But based mostly on its overall usability, I'd give it a pass

Nikon S51

Shirt-pocket thin, covered in black and chrome, and sporting a huge 3-inch LCD on the back, the $250 (at time of review) Nikon Coolpix S51 exudes chic. This point-and-shoot model has nearly all the ingredients you're likely to look for in a quality...

Nikon Coolpix S51c (Silver) review

Why mess with a good thing? That seems to be Nikon's approach to its Wi-Fi-enabled ultracompact cameras. When they came out with the Coolpix S50c last year, I noticed that it was extremely similar to its predecessor, the S7c. Now, Nikon has made the...

Nice click wheel; sleek, slim design; supports wireless 802.11b/g photo e-mail via T-Mobile HotSpot and private access points; optical image stabilization.

The lack of a built-in browser prevents you from being able to access most free public Wi-Fi access points.

This latest version of Nikon's Wi-Fi camera captures nice images and lets you e-mail them straight from the camera via T-Mobile or private access points, but since it lacks a browser you can't gain access to most free Wi-Fi access points.

Nikon Coolpix S51c Digital Camera - Review - The Imaging Resource!

The Nikon Coolpix S51c has a sleek two-tone body that includes an IEEE 802.11b/g chip set with which to upload its eight megapixel images to the company's "my Picturetown" photo sharing site, or send them via email. The Coolpix S51c has plenty of other...

Probably the best looking digicam around ; Optical stabilization (Vibration Reduction) ; 3.0-inch LCD with 230K pixels and a wide viewing angle ; Scroll wheel works well for entering text ; One touch email button ; One touch Portrait button activates...

Blown highlights ; Sluggish autofocus, long shutter lag ; Slow startup ; Takes almost four seconds between shots ; Poor digital zoom quality ; Poor battery life ; WiFi only to Nikon's my Picturetown server ; Brick-style battery charger ; Large USB/AV...

The Nikon S51c also offers optical image stabilization, and the camera saves images on Secure Digital cards, or in a not-so-generous 13MB of internal memory. The camera includes USB 2.0 Hi-Speed and video output technology. Other features include a...

A 8.2 megapixel Coolpix with WiFi built-in

The Coolpix S51c is a elegant, small and handy camera that offers an interesting feature in its built-in wireless connection that lets you send and store pictures. It primarily connects to Nikon's own my Picturetown service, which limits choices. The...

The Coolpix S51 finds itself amongst some tough competition in the ultra-compact arena. How does it perform? Find out now in our review

Good photo quality; better-than-average at ISO 400 and 800 ; Good value for the money ; Compact metal body ; Optical image stabilization ; Huge, fairly sharp 3-inch LCD display ; Plenty of scene modes to choose from ; Handy D-Lighting and Best Shot...

Photos tend to be soft, with too much noise reduction ; Redeye a problem, despite countermeasures ; Poor battery life ; Very slow focusing speeds at telephoto end of lens, or in low light ; Sluggish in many other areas: user interface, continuous...

All things considered, the Coolpix S51 is an inexpensive, but mediocre camera. It has a few nice features, and generally good image quality, but its overall sluggishness and crummy battery life left me feeling a bit cold. It's worth looking at if...
