Nikon Coolpix S630

The Nikon Coolpix S630 packs a generous 7x optical zoom lens in a body small enough to slip into most pockets.

Fast 7x optical zoom lens. Solid wide-angle image quality. Comfortable, ergonomic design. Negligible shutter lag. Low noise at high ISOs (up to ISO 800).

Images are soft and color fringing occurs when zoomed in. Sluggish face detection. Underwhelming user interface.

Nikon CoolPix S630 review

The Nikon Coolpix S630 is a nice camera. In fact, it's so nice it borders on bland, but is saved from being so by a 7x optical zoom. The photo quality is pleasant enough (though not perfect), its design is excellent, and it has a respectable set of...

Excellent design; 7x optical zoom in a compact body; ISO range limiter; good photo quality up to ISO 400.

Slow performance; photos can look over-processed, soft.

The Nikon Coolpix S630 puts a little extra zoom in your pocket, but you might not find the high-resolution photos it shoots out pleasurable.

Nikon Coolpix S630

Nikon has done a good job in making the Coolpix S630 a true point and shoot camera. At most, you might need to select one of the 16 scene modes to get the best image, but on full auto the camera will even do this for you. The slightly larger display...

Nikon Coolpix S630

The Nikon Coolpix S630, is an easy-to-use point-and-shoot, with a decent zoom and good still image quality, though light on the manual controls. It shoots 12-megapixel images, has a 7x zoom lens in a compact body, but is stuck with standard definition...

One of the most immediately apparent features of the S630 is its distinctive curved design, which gives it a touch of visual flair, but retains an enlarged grip to make for easy handling. It also incorporates a scroll wheel on the back of the camera,...

Nikon S630

Easy-to-use, with good controls and strong image quality, though it struggled with video

Good color accuracy; Low noise

Ineffective image stabilization; Poor video performance

The Nikon Coolpix S630 is an eminently respectable point-and-shoot camera. While not heavy on controls, its still image quality was excellent, with low noise, above average color accuracy, and minimal lens distortion. Where the camera faltered was its...

Coolpix S630

($279) is a compact, inexpensive point-and-shoot camera with a 7X optical zoom lens, image stabilization, and a 2.7" LCD display. There are more than enough compact cameras on the market now, but only a select few pack this much zoom power. Other...

Accurate color, generally good exposure ; 7X zoom lens in a compact, easy to hold body ; Sensor-shift image stabilization (but see issues below) ; Sharp 2.7" LCD is visible outdoors and in low light ; Fast AF in good light ; Tons of scene modes, plus...

Soft images with substantial detail loss due to noise reduction ; Occasional highlight clipping ; Poor low light focusing ; Lens is on the slow side (in terms of aperture) ; Noisy image stabilizer; cannot be used in movie mode ; Unimpressive continuous...

The Coolpix S630 is one of those cameras that I really wanted to like, but after spending a few months with it, I was disappointed. I like the design and the big zoom in a small package concept, but the photo quality and performance leave much to be...

Nikon Coolpix S630 Digital Camera Review
