Nikon Coolpix S70

Nikon's OLED-touch-screen-equipped Coolpix S70 has great potential, but mediocre image quality, a low-resolution display, and interface issues underwhelm.

Attractive design. High-contrast 3.5-inch OLED screen offers multi-touch support. Charges via USB.

Expensive. Low-resolution display. Oversensitive zoom control. Noticeable shutter lag. Images suffer from color fringing.

Nikon Coolpix S70 review

The Nikon Coolpix S70 is an impressive leap forward in design and functionality from its predecessor, the S60 . That camera, while it had an excellent design, had a touch-screen LCD that was occasionally frustrating to use; that's not great considering...

Zippy, well executed touch-screen interface; great tap-and-shoot feature; attention-getting design.

Leisurely performance; battery charging done in camera might bother some; tricky to hold.

The Nikon Coolpix S70 has a top-notch touch-screen interface and eye-catching design, but you're definitely paying for them.

Nikon Coolpix S70 Review

Nikon's Coolpix S70 is an interesting Touch enabled model. While offering some very appealing features, the S70 suffers from slower than average response time, and a "clunky" GUI. Read our full Conclusion for more details.

Excellent build quality; Stylish design; Nice 5x wide optical zoom lens; Fast start-up and auto focus; Accurate "Easy" shooting mode; Effective Touch shooting function; Captures nice 12-megapixel images ; Cons ; Slower than average GUI; Mediocre...

If you're in the market for a true point and shoot camera that is compact and easy to use, the Coolpix S70 makes an excellent choice. It has all of the same features as Nikon's (and the competition's) other cameras in this class with the added bonus...

Nikon Coolpix S70 Review

The Nikon Coolpix S70 is Nikon's first Coolpix camera to feature a large OLED screen and a 720p HD movie mode. This 12-megapixel touchscreen model is an evolutionary upgrade to the Coolpix S60 of yesterday, adding new-generation touchscreen functions...

The Nikon Coolpix S70 is a well-built but controversial little snapper. As a digital compact camera, it is average - it has some nice functions, such as the Touch Shutter feature that lets you focus on your subject and take a picture very quickly; but...

Nikon Coolpix S70 Review

If you're going to a build a camera with a touch screen, then why not go all in and skip the physical buttons? That's the philosophy behind the Nikon Coolpix S70, a slick point and shoot with one button - an optional shutter release.

Bright 3.5 inch OLED ; 720p HD video ; Slim, attractive

Inconsistent image quality ; Few exposure controls ; Overexposure in images

It is a great idea, in theory, to throw in an OLED instead of a common LCD as a touch viewfinder/display. It certainly out-performs a standard LCD in bright sunlight, but it doesn't really shine against the competition because its resolution is only...

Nikon Coolpix S70

What would you say to a camera with one button? We say: "Yes please."

From a design and functionality standpoint, the Nikon Coolpix S70 is a massive leap forward for digital point-and-shoot cameras. Following up on the S60's touchscreen LCD-operated device, the S70 ups the ante considerably by moving to a bold and...

Nikon Coolpix S70 – Review – 35

Ashley Kramer gets touchy-feely with the new Coolpix

Nice, pocketable size ; Clever interface

Noise above ISO400

I really enjoyed using the S70. While the nagging thought that the interface could have been more ‘Apple-like' initially bothered me, the S70 is designed to take photos, not entertain. I therefore put those thoughts aside and just got on with the...
