Nikon D3000

Lightweight but solid build ; Images are sharp and have good color

Viewfinder doesn't protrude enough ; LCD can be hard to read in bright light

As a first investment in a digital SLR, the D3000 is a good choice for consumers looking for an affordable, reliable, well-constructed camera that produces consistently good results under everyday conditions.

Nikon D3000 Review

There is a temptation amongst those of us that shoot with and test DSLRs for a living to be more than a little dismissive about entry-level cameras like the Nikon D3000. However, first-time DSLR buyers are enormously important to camera manufacturers,...

Excellent detail and resolution at low ISO settings (especially in raw mode) ; Very capable AF system, including 3D AF tracking, on a par with much more expensive DSLRs ; Versatile and fun retouch options including in-camera raw processing ;...

Unreliable white balance under artificial lighting ; Slight tendency to overexpose in contrasty conditions ; No Live View ; Screen resolution slightly too low for checking accurate focus ; Very little control over high ISO noise reduction ; No front...

The D3000 may not have all the latest bells and whistles feature-wise, but what it does it does extremely well. If you can live without live view and movie modes it's the perfect beginner's camera.

Nikon D3000

The inexpensive, entry-level Nikon D3000 is a good fit for first-time D-SLR users, but competing shooters in this price range offer sharper, less noisy images.

Affordable. 3-inch LCD. Guide mode and Info button provide automatic operation along with helpful shooting tips. 11 autofocus points.

Soft images. Poor low-light performance. Noticeable noise at ISO 800 and above. LCD doesn't support Live View. No video capture.

Nikon D3000 review: Nikon D3000

Nikon D3000

Beginner-friendly Guide mode; nicely laid out interactive control panel; solid photo quality up through ISO 1,600.

Extremely basic feature set; annoying multiselector switch.

Its feature set is basic even by entry-level standards, but the Nikon D3000 delivers the photo quality and performance you expect when stepping up to a dSLR, with an optional interface that's very beginner friendly.

Nikon D3000

Beautiful photos have never been so easy with the Nikon D3000 Digital SLR. Imagine all the high-tech wizardry of the more expensive cameras without all the confusing menus and manuals. Imagine the D3000, a camera that combines Nikon technology with...

Simplistic- easy to use and compatible with variety of lensesAdvanced- features integrated image enhancement processorsCompact- small and lightweight for the traveling photographerReasonable- affordable price makes it a great first D-SLR

Limited- lack of features, flimsy noise-reduction processing

Nikon D3000 review

The launch of the Nikon D3000 was inevitable. The arrival of the D5000 had made it clear that the possibility to bring out another model ranked slightly below was still wide open. And that exact space in that particular segment, that of the entry-level...

The Nikon D3000 lays out a smooth road for the novice photographer to make the step from a compact camera to a digital SLR camera. The Nikon D3000 is in that respect an ideal camera for the amateur, and because the learning curve is very low, all its...

Nikon D3000 Review

The Nikon D3000 is a new entry-level digital SLR camera designed to make photography simple and accessible. Aimed at the complete beginner, the D3000 is primarily aimed at anyone who wants to take photos without having to worry about what the camera is...

As with the Nikon range topping D3x, with the D3000 at the very opposite end of the scale, its manufacturer is again providing the photographer (fledgling in this case) with their own virtual 'wingman', delivering essential aid whilst leaving them to...

Nikon D3000

The D3000 has been replaced by the D3100, although the D3000 can still be found on the shelves at a significant discount. While there are savings to be had with the D3000, we wholeheartedly recommend the D3100 over this model, as the image quality is...

Camera Test: Nikon D3000

You can get a lot of Nikon for your money—the $780 (body only) D90 pops readily to mind as a near-unbeatable deal. But what about the lowest-price entry point into the Nikon system, the D3000 ($550, street, with 18– 55mm f/3.5–5.6 VR lens)? Despite the...
