The Nikon D5300 D-SLR is a modest upgrade from the previous model, but it's just as worthy, making it our Editors' Choice for entry-level D-SLRs.
24-megapixel sensor with no optical low-pass filter. Sharp vari-angle display. Excellent JPG detail at high ISO. 4.7fps continuous shooting. 39-point autofocus system. Quick startup. 1080p60 video capture. Integrated Wi-Fi and GPS. Standard mic input.
Images on the noisy side. Will not autofocus with screw-drive lenses. Pentamirror viewfinder. Single control wheel. Self-timer deactivates after use. Lacks depth of field preview.
Remote control via your handheld device is also possible. Select "Take Photos" from the app menu and the camera will switch to Live View mode and transmit its feed to your phone's display. It's fairly smooth, and you can tap an area of the frame to...

This $1,100 dSLR kit earns our Editors' Choice Award for being a great generalist camera.
Excellent photo quality, a great feature set, and speedy performance put the ; ahead of the pack.
The default settings could be better and Live View is still really slow to use.
The Nikon D5300 is a great choice as a general-purpose dSLR.

Nikon's 'advanced beginner' DSLR, the D5300 takes the D5200's place between the entry-level D3200 and the enthusiast-targeted D7100 in the company's APS-C lineup. The D5300 offers a 24MP sensor (like its 24MP APS-C stablemates), an articulated rear...
Excellent image quality High resolution sensor produces highly detailed images Useful and sophisticated Auto ISO system Solid feature set for first-time DSLR users Good frame coverage of 39-point AF array 1080/60p HD maximum video resolution...
Single Fn button is only means of direct access to key shooting settings like ISO and WB Extreme lag in magnified live view On-screen 'info' menu is dense and hard to operate quickly No live preview of aperture changes in live view Built-in flash lacks...
I didn't expect major suprises from the D5300 when I picked it up to review. In a (mostly) good way, that proved to be true. Where I expected it to excel - high resolution image creation, specifically - it did. It's important to overlook the iterative...

The Nikon D5300 DSLR camera offers a very nice mixture of automatic and manual control shooting features, making this model a good first interchangeable lens camera. It offers fast image processing speeds when working in Viewfinder mode, and the...
Very good image quality versus other entry-level DSLRs ; Improved performance speed versus predecessor ; Anti-aliasing filter removed for clearer images ; ISO settings up to 25,800 (equivalent) ; Noise in photos is limited, even at mid- to high-range...
No touchscreen feature with LCD ; Battery drains quickly when using Live View mode ; Camera's performance slows considerably in Live View mode ; Autofocus sharpness is inconsistent when recording video ; No eye sensor; viewfinder mode doesn't activate...

Nikon D5300 SLR camera : We introduced the Nikon D5300 in October 2013. It is a user-friendly digital SLR camera for creative and travel photographers. The Nikon D5300 is equipped with a DX-format CMOS sensor with 24.2 megapixels and Expeed 4 image...
The following Nikon D5300 test pictures were shot in JPEG format with a full production camera. The photos were shot in Southern Germany, in Berchtesgaden, near the Kehlsteinhaus (also known as the Eagle’s Nest), where Adolf Hitler used to hang out. We...

The Nikon D5300 is a new 24.2 megapixel DSLR camera with no optical low-pass filter that can record Full HD movies at 1080/50/60p with stereo sound and comes equipped with built-in Wi-Fi and GPS. A high-resolution 3.2-inch vari-angle LCD monitor makes...
The new Nikon D5300 is a rather modest upgrade of the previous D5200 model, with new wi-fi and GPS functions, enhanced video recording, a larger LCD screen, a smaller body and the removal of the optical low-pass filter. D5200 owners probably won't find...

The Nikon D5300 may mark an evolutionary -- rather than a revolutionary -- upgrade over the 15-month-old D5200. However, the camera's improvements are quite considerable, positioning the DSLR as a compelling, more affordable option for advanced...

The Nikon D5300 follows the Nikon D5200 and there is an important difference between the two. The D5300 has a new image sensor without a low-pass filter, which contributed to an excellent performance in our resolution tests.
Fast entry-level camera with a lot of features ; WLAN for direct image copy to smartphone or PC ; Fully articulated swivel monitor ; GPS integrated ; Built-in flash system which can be used as master system for Nikon’s Advanced Wireless Lighting
WLAN software (smartphone app) less comfortable and powerful than other software ; A somewhat bulky design/body
