Nikon D80

A long-awaited successor to the Nikon D70s, the D80 arrives with a 10.2-megapixel sensor, a larger LCD, better performance, and many fine features. At $1300 (as of November 6, 2006) bundled with an 18mm-to-135mm lens, the D80 resembles the Canon EOS...

Excellent image quality; sturdy body ; Many features, such as in-camera editing

Price is a little high

This fast and powerful SLR is significantly smaller than the D70s, and offers many features, including a status LCD.

Digital Cameras: Nikon D80

Excellent performance. Superb image quality. Zoom lens offers fantastic 7.5X optical zoom coverage. Great burst performance.

Slightly more expensive than then the competition.

If you want more zoom from a kit lens and are willing to pay just a bit more for a D-SLR, the Nikon D80 is the camera for you.

Nikon D80 Review

Two and a half years ago Nikon announced the six megapixel D70, their first affordable enthusiasts digital SLR, it proved to be a very popular camera and strong competitor to the Canon EOS 300D (Digital Rebel). Just fifteen months later Nikon revealed...

Excellent resolution, lots of detail, not a leap from eight megapixels, but certainly from six Excellent build quality, tight shut lines, quality materials Instant power on, very responsive, very short black-out time, very fast media write Fast,...

High sensitivity (ISO) noise levels higher than Canon EOS 400D Noise reduction can be intrusive, although adjustable, more grain-like appearance Default sharpness level perhaps still a little conservative Disappointing automatic white balance...

The number of cons, and the fact that there are no serious ones, is a testament to the thought and work that has gone into the D80's design. It's one of those cameras which just feels 'right and sorted' from the moment you pick it up. Things just get...

Nikon D80

Excellent color rendition and noise levels; large feature set; highly customizable; lightning-fast performance.

Full raw editor costs extra; flash sync of 1/200 second.

Nikon scores big with the D80, its new 10-megapixel, sub-$1,000 dSLR.

Nikon D80 Digital Camera - First Shots

The new Nikon D80's combination of high-end features and its 18-135mm DX kit lens make a killer photographic tool for the amateur and intermediate photographer who can't afford or justify the extra cost of the Nikon D200

Since the D80 borrows so much of its features and user interface from the D200, most of what we liked about the D200 applies to the D80 as well. Hence, many of the items below are the same as for the D200 ; Good build quality, very solid feel in the...

Flash X-Sync speed reduced to 1/200 second, Contrast adjustment has limited range, needs to go further in the low-contrast direction, Lack of Group Dynamic function (as on D200) can make it harder to acquire active subjects., No non-CPU lens menu as on...
