Olympus C-40 Zoom (D-40 Zoom) Review

The tiny Olympus C-40Z (known as the D-40Z in North America) was announced on the 2nd September this year, it entered the market as the first pocket sized (ultra-compact) four megapixel digital camera (and still is at the time of writing this review)....

Good resolution (considering the size of the lens), though not as good as Canon S40 Good natural light white balance, vivid yet well balanced colour reproduction Compact size, light weight, very good build quality Pixel mapping does away with worries...

Strong chromatic aberrations Moire artifacts Diagonal jaggies Over aggressive sharpening (can be lowered via record menu) Some hue shift with manual white balance under fluorescent light Lens soft towards edge / corners Lens slow at telephoto (F4.8)...

Here's my rating of the Olympus C-40Z: (4 megapixel compact)

Olympus D-40 Zoom

Find out more about the D-40 in our review..

Ultra-small body ; Tons of manual controls ; Very good photo quality ; Movie mode w/sound ; Pixel Mapping removes bad pixels ; Noise reduction for better low light shots

No optical zoom in movie mode ; Jagged edges on many images ; No rechargeable batteries, tiny 16MB SmartMedia card included ; Real" manual found on CD (and isn't great to begin with)

Naturally, people want comparisons between the D-40 and its closest competitors: the Pentax Optio 430 (read review) and Canon PowerShot S40 (read review). I liked all three of them, and ultimately it comes down to your personal preference. The Canon...

OLYMPUS D-40: The Near-Perfect Camera

After delving into the landscape with a Fuji 2600 2.0 Megapixel digital camera my sister bought me from Hong Kong. I was hooked. I loved the size of my little compact Fuji 2600, the conveniences and money saved on photo-finishing, and the overall ease ...

Great Family Camera

When we were expecting our first child, we started shopping around for a digital camera. Because we also wanted the ability to print high-resolution 8 x 10 photos, we started by looking at 4 megapixel cameras.

High Quality Pics, Small, Automatic and Manual settings

SmartMedia Card, only 2.8 optical zoom, Short Battery Life, no accessories
