Olympus Evolt E-300 Camera

The Olympus EVolt E-300 digital SLR ($900 with lens, $800 otherwise) comes with a slew of creative features. Once you master them--particularly the exposure controls--you can take some truly dazzling photos. Digital photographers looking to move beyond...

Well suited for enthusiasts and novices

Lens selection limited

Unfortunately, the E-300 requires specific lenses. Unlike the digital SLRs from Canon, Nikon, and Pentax, there is no massive base of existing 35mm film camera lenses to choose from. If you're starting from scratch, buying clean used lenses for these...

Olympus EVolt E-300

This rugged SLR is fast and can shoot in long bursts, but it requires specific lenses.

Though the lenses available are limited, the E-300 delivers high image quality, and its features are well suited to photographers of all skill levels.

Olympus Evolt E300

This is a good affordable choice for serious amateurs who want high-resolution images, lots of control, and access to a growing assortment of Four Thirds lenses.

Well-built. 8-megapixel digital SLR for the price of an entry-level 6MP D-SLR. Possesses all important features and functions. Olympus's "sonic clean" capability keeps dust off the sensor.

Evolt's porroflex optical viewing system isn't as bright as a traditional pentaprism. AF Assist consists of annoying preflashes rather than a separate light. Image quality, while good, should be better for an 8MP camera. USB 1.1 is too slow for the...

Olympus E-300 EVOLT Review

The E-300 ('EVOLT' in North America) became the second ever Four Thirds System digital SLR when it was announced by Olympus at Photokina 2004. The camera features an eight megapixel Kodak 4/3 Type CCD sensor, a Four Thirds lens mount and an unusual...

Good resolution, almost as good as the more expensive Canon EOS 20D, Good color, contrasty images with consumer-appeal 'punch' (can be adjusted), Noise free images at ISO 100, Wide range of image parameter adjustment (color, tone, sharpness), Good...

Recommended sensitivity ISO 100 - 400, images at ISO 800 usable, ISO 1600 not really, Demosaic artifacts on JPEG and Olympus Master processed RAW, Images not per-pixel as 'crisp' as from other D-SLR's (image processing / low pass?), Moire artifacts can...

When Olympus first revealed the E-300 at Photokina last year it wasn't too much of a surprise, many of us had been expecting (wishing) them to introduce a 'consumer level' digital SLR with a Four Thirds system mount for some time.

Olympus E review: Olympus E

This beauty-challenged Olympus offers unmatched build quality, snappy performance, and top resolution for its class, but low-light shooters and metering novices may prefer alternatives.

Good interface; lets you trade resolution for speed; well-designed body; high resolution.

Can't focus closer than eight inches; buttons somewhat randomly placed.

Despite its flaws, this E-20N feels great and produces 5-megapixel images that should satisfy most.

The Olympus E-300 / Olympus Evolt E-300 is the second digital SLR camera based on the FourThirds System. The Olympus E-300 / Olympus Evolt E-300 is an 8 megapixel DSLR thatlooks a little unusual - Olympus have replaced the traditional pentaprismwith a...

The Olympus E-300 achieves the difficult feat of offering a wealth of features, great ease of use and good image quality at a price point that would have been difficult to believe only a couple of years ago. £600 / $900 / €800 for an 8 megapixel...
