Olympus EVolt E-330

Live preview on LCD is a unique feature--but one that presents both benefits and liabilities.

Evolt E-330 Digital SLR

The Olympus EVolt E-330 ($1100 as of March 21, 2006) is an upgrade of the company's previous E-300 model. The E-330 is unique among midrange digital SLR cameras in allowing you to use its LCD screen as a viewfinder.

LCD screen can be used as a viewfinder Unlimited continuous shooting

Rear-mounted LCD can be distracting Limited lens selection

The camera's interface is adequate, permitting relatively speedy access to essential controls. And the E-330 includes Olympus's excellent automatic sensor-cleaning mechanism to keep dust from marring your images

LCD screen can be used as a viewfinder ; Unlimited continuous shooting

Rear-mounted LCD can be distracting ; Limited lens selection

Standout LCD plus good optic and image quality, but there's no LCD status display and lens options are limited.

Olympus Evolt E-330

Type: D-SLR, Maximum Resolution: 3136 x 2352 pixels, Megapixels: 7.5, Media Format: CompactFlash, Media Format: xD-...

First D-SLR to let you compose your shots on its LCD screen. Articulating 2.5-inch LCD.

It may not be a flawless camera, but the Olympus Evolt E-330 stands apart from all other D-SLRs on the market today.

Olympus E-330

On January 26th 2006 over a year since the introduction of the E-300 Olympus revealed the 7.5 million pixel 'live view' successor, the E-330. The E-330's biggest differentiation to any other digital SLR is its capability to deliver a live view on the...

Good resolution at lower sensitivities (no real difference to eight megapixels), Good vivid color response, more 'consumer appeal' type (selectable Picture Modes), Low noise up to ISO 400, gets softer at ISO 800, too soft at ISO 1600 (JPEG), New...

Very small viewfinder and darker (difficult to see fine detail, difficult to check focus), Recommended sensitivity ISO 100 - 400, images at ISO 800 usable, ISO 1600 not really, Poor noise reduction algorithm, blurs the image too heavily at ISO 1600,...

The introduction of the E-330 confused us, it was difficult to see where this new camera fitted into the current digital SLR market.

Olympus Evolt E-330 review: Olympus Evolt E-330

Can preview shots on LCD; large LCD; very solidly built; strong photo quality.

Takes a while to figure out some of the features; kit lens is slow.

The Olympus Evolt E-330 is a very good midrange dSLR with unique live scene viewing on its large LCD.

Olympus E330 review

The Olympus E300 digital SLR camera, which was introduced in 2004, strongly deviated from the traditional SLR camera design. When Olympus introduced the Olympus E500 one year later, people generally assumed Olympus had taken the path of least...

At least Olympus cannot be accused of lacking creativity, something that is perfectly illustrated by the introduction of the Olympus E330 digital SLR. Not only does the Olympus E330 feature a bold and eccentric design, it is also filled to the brim...
