Olympus Pen E-P2

The Olympus Pen E-P2 serves up unique in-camera controls and an attractive, durable design, but it costs significantly more than an entry-level DSLR, lacks a built-in flash, and has autofocus issues.

Olympus PEN E-P2

This is the second of our new 'Quick Reviews.' We will be using this format for cameras that are operationally similar and identical in terms of output to models we've already reviewed. We test to confirm the image quality is identical (noise tests and...

Excellent resolution with lots of detail in the shots ; Appealing, bright and punchy out of camera results and well optimized JPEGs ; Improved AF performance (though kit lens holds it back) ; Pretty retro design puts SLR quality into a compact body ;...

Some highlight clipping (and poor dynamic range at ISO 100) ; Low resolution screen that's hard to see in bright light ; i-Enhance picture mode can't be disengaged when using iAuto ; No built-in flash (and the optional flash is expensive and pretty...

A slightly revised version of the E-P1 sees changes in all the right places. A great JPEG engine, in-body stabilization and the option to add one of the best electronic viewfinders we've seen combine to help it live up to its looks.

Olympus E-P2 review: Olympus E-P2

Olympus E-P2

Striking design; excellent build quality; very good photo quality.

Sluggish autofocus; short battery life; low-resolution LCD; lacks on-camera flash.

For some, an elegant shooter's design and high-quality low-ISO photos may more than adequately compensate for the Olympus E-P2's sluggish performance.

Review: Olympus Pen E-P2

Want retro styling with digital prowess? Be prepared to shell out big bucks for it.

Compact, 12-megapixel camera with interchangeable lenses. Giant LCD screen. Great low-light performance, professional features including full manual control and RAW mode. That design is hot, son. Hot

A good deal more expensive than the nearly identical E-P1. Costs about the same as a full-sized DSLR. LCD viewfinder is lower-resolution than the main LCD and is annoyingly laggy. Viewfinder also hogs flash hot-shoe

Olympus E-P2

Olympus' update to the problematic E-P1 adds an electronic viewfinder, but little else.

D-SLR-quality images. Sharp images from ISO 100-800 at all f-stops. Low noise from ISO 100-1600. Attractive design. 720p30 HD video capture. Mini HDMI port.

Slow autofocus. No built-in flash. Electronic viewfinder is no match for an optical viewfinder. Camera picks up lens motor noise when shooting video.

First Look: The attractive Olympus Pen E-P2 serves up unique in-camera controls, interchangeable lenses, and a compact design, but it costs significantly more than an entry-level DSLR.

Olympus E-P2 review

Last summer, Olympus launched its very first Micro Four System-based camera, the PEN E-P1. Referring to the rich photo history of Olympus, the E-P1 received a true retro design. Daring indeed, and it soon turned out the system camera formed a striking...

When the Olympus P1 was introduced, people admired this bold step by Olympus. The PEN camera was and is in many ways a unique camera, although Panasonic has now introduced a similar camera. The design of the Olympus PEN P2 camera is virtually identical...

Olympus E-P2 Review

The Olympus E-P2 is the second Micro Four Thirds camera from Olympus, following last Summer's launch of the popular E-P1 model. Offering DSLR-like image quality in an ultra-compact format, the E-P2 adds a number of features to tempt you to upgrade from...

With the tweaks and refinements to the Olympus E-P2 being relatively modest, existing E-P1 owners shouldn't feel the need for an upgrade. To sum up, chief 'improvements' are the newly included EVF and port for such, (slightly) enhanced functionality...
