Olympus Stylus 810 reviewed

C|net just layed mits to the 8 megapixel Olympus Stylus 810. In their review of this weatherproof (not waterproof) shooter with image stabilization, c|net calls the 810 a "very good" camera with "solid" image quality. Sure, noise is the "biggest...

Olympus Stylus 810 review: Olympus Stylus 810

intro The versatile, water-resistant 8-megapixel Olympus Stylus 810 adapts to dim environments as readily as it braves damp ones. Thanks to a combination of high sensitivity (up to ISO 3,200), digital image stabilization, and Olympus's Bright Capture...

Offers high ISO settings; digital image stabilization; quick burst mode; solid image quality.

LCD washes out in bright light; no manual controls; some features available only at lower resolutions.

If you can stand a bit of noise, the Olympus Stylus 810 can handle your low-light and high-speed shots. Unfortunately, the easily washed-out LCD limits its use in sunlight.

Olympus Stylus 810

Olympus' new top-of-the-line Stylus camera is, supposedly, the Stylus 810. It has 8 megapixels, a 3x optical zoom lens and a high-resolution 2.5 inch LCD. Best of all, it's weatherproof (different from waterproof) - means you can even pour water on it...

8 megapixels in an all-weather body ; Average battery life ; Large high-resolution LCD which is sharp and visible ; Fairly powerful flash ; Extremely high-speed continuous shooting (though at 3 MP only) ; A great big collection of scene modes ; Camera...

No manual controls (The Stylus 800 had priority modes) ; Good low-light viewing but bad low-light focusing ; Slow (for "normal" continuous shooting) and limited continuous shooting ; No real optical image stabilization ; Not-even-close 10 cm macro mode...

Stylish and all-weather, the Stylus 810 is a pocket point-and-shoot camera with everything you need to, well, just point and shoot - 8 megapixels for cropping/printing, a large visible LCD, in-camera guide and 20 scene modes.

A little disappointing, the MJU 810 doesn't quite live up to its predecessor's name offering a solid if not awe inspiring compact model with poorer than expected image quality.

Weatherproof, Nice design

Image quality lacking, No manual features

Olympus MJU 810

Poor weather conditions are no obstacle to the Olympus MJU 810. It can cope with rainy days without a problem. Small enough to slip into a pocket, it has eight megapixels and a three times zoom lens.
