Olympus Stylus XZ-2 iHS review:

The Olympus Stylus XZ-2 iHS was probably about $100 too expensive when it came out.

The Olympus Stylus XZ-2 iHS features a great f1.8-2.5 lens, excellent photo quality and shooting options, and a well-designed body that's solidly constructed.

Its high ISO images are noisy. With no built-in Wi-Fi, getting wireless features will cost you extra. Battery charges in camera via proprietary USB cable.

The Olympus Stylus XZ-2 iHS is an excellent bright lens enthusiast compact. At this point, though, you should skip it at its full $600 price.

Olympus Stylus XZ-2 ( Black)

It originally went on sale in November 2012, replacing the XZ-1 that came out in January 2011. The XZ-2 started at a price of $599, a $100 more than where its predecessor started. While not completely out of line for its features, it was still a high...

Olympus XZ-2

The Olympus XZ-2 has a bright lens and captures sharp photos, but it's too expensive and photos start to show some noise as you notch up the ISO.

Fast lens. Excellent control layout. Tilting touch-screen LCD. EVF option. Hot shoe. Raw shooting support.

Expensive. No Wi-Fi or GPS. Noisy images at high ISOs.

Performance and Conclusions The XZ-2 can start and grab a shot in an impressive 1.6 seconds. It records a 0.2-second shutter lag, a respectable figure for a point-and-shoot, and can fire off shots continuously at about 3 frames per second. It does a...

Flash has a tendency to blow out images ; WiFi capabilities are limited and more complicated than need be ; No audio input on camera ; Some special shooting modes did not work as hoped

Olympus XZ-2 Review

Boasting a new 12-megapixel 1/1.7-inch CMOS sensor and three-inch articulating LCD touchscreen, the Olympus XZ-2 enthusiast compact camera marks a serious upgrade over the XZ-1. But the not-quite-pocketable camera's core selling point remains the fast...

Good image quality for its class; Fast, bright f/1.8-2.5 i.ZUIKO 4x zoom lens; Dual-purpose front Control Ring lets you select aperture or focus manually; three-inch articulating LCD touch-screen monitor

Pricier than many enthusiast compacts; Image detail starts dropping off at ISO 800 and noise becomes problematic at ISO 3200; Lens cover pops off as zoom lens extends, when you turn the camera on

The Olympus XZ-2 improves upon the popular XZ-1 with several key upgrades, including a brand new 12-megapixel 1/1.7-inch backside-illuminated CMOS sensor. However, thankfully, the new model keeps the fast, bright f/1.8-2.5 i.ZUIKO zoom lens which made...

Olympus XZ-2

The Olympus XZ-2 is a compact aimed at the demands of enthusiasts. Successor to the XZ-1, it sports the same 28-112mm equivalent 4x zoom with a bright f1.8-2.5 maximum aperture, but swaps its predecessor's 1/1.63in 10 Megapixel CCD sensor with a...

Fast, accurate AF ; Versatile three-mode lens ring ; Flip-out 3in 920k dot LCD touch-screen ; Accessory port for optional EVF

Poor high ISO noise performance ; Average continous shooting performance ; Touch-sceen inactive for movie recording ; Only 2 video modes

The Stylus XZ-2 provides a great balance between advanced control, capable handling, and ease of use that few of its competitors have achieved with equal success. In part, this is due to the way that they've cleverly limited the influence of the...

Digital Camera Review: Olympus XZ-2

The XZ-2's 12MP sensor, 4x zoom lens, image processor and fast auto focus speed combine for impressive photo quality from a camera this compact. The 28-112mm equivalent lens is super fast at f/1.8-2.5 and the resulting pictures have minimal noise,...
