Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX55

Even with an outstanding feature set and a good implementation of autofocus, the DMC-FX55 disappoints with poor image quality.

Big 3-inch LCD. Large joystick for navigating menus. Impressive autofocus implementation. Useful Intelligent Auto mode.

Produces images with muted colors. Image noise is apparent even at low ISO settings.

Panasonic Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX55

Sheathed in a brushed-silver metal shell, Panasonic's $350, 8.1-megapixel Lumix DMC-FX55 is as elegant-looking as it is functional. Though not quite small enough to slide comfortably into a shirt pocket, this point-and-shoot digital camera combines a...

Super-bright LCD ; Capable image stabilization

In-camera help text not very helpful

The FX55 has a superb 3-inch LCD, but the screen saps battery life, and images weren't as sharp as those of the FX100.

Review: Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX55

Built around a lens forged in the vaunted house of Leica, the FX55 is packed with a laundry list of features: an ultra wide zoom...

Beautiful industrial design with superior Leica optics. Shoots in 3:2, 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios. Sharp QuickTime videos

Menus are unnecessarily murky. Key functions like exposure compensation, flash adjustment, and delete require deep menu digging rather than direct access. The function dial makes mode changes slower than a tortoise full of rigor mortis

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX55 review:

Panasonic's Lumix DMC-FX55 is a beautiful little camera. It has a clean, simple, and solid design that should appeal to most camera buyers. But in the world of cameras, beauty is only body-casing deep and it's what happens inside the camera that really...

Compact, lightweight design; wide-angle 3.6x optical zoom lens; optical image stabilization.

Mediocre image quality.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX55 is a cute compact camera that sports a nice wide-angle lens, but its so-so image quality keeps it from reaching its full potential.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX55 Review

The new Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX55 carries on the diminutive tradition of the FX series of digital cameras, measuring just 9.5 x 5.7 x 2.3 cms and weighing 143 grams. The FX55 squeezes in a 3.6x wide-angle (28-100mm) Leica DC optical zoom lens with a...

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX55 is a stylish ultra-compact camera that you can carry with you wherever you go. It's quite responsive with quick focusing, even in low-light conditions, and an adequate Continuous mode of 3fps. Panasonic have focused on...

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX55 digital camera Review and Prices

At a $300-plus price point, you'd expect a lot out of your ultra-compact digital camera. Although the Lumix DMC-FX55 from Panasonic has some nice features, it doesn't offer quite enough power to justify its MSRP of $349.

Startup time is good, high resolution, very large LCD, good battery life, thin camera body, limited wide-angle capabilities

Low-light photos can be noisy, starting price is high, some response times are below average, zoom lens doesn't quite equal 3X

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX55 review

Is 8MP and a 3-inch LCD enough to excite?

Logical, easy-to-use menus ; Well built ; Great value

Poor quality at higher ISOs

There's a lot to like about the FX55. The lens is superb and the zoom range is more than enough for most. Picture quality in low light is not great but the excellent intelligent Auto mode makes up for it. A great camera for the casual or novice...

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX55 8.1Mp compact camera

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX55 compact camera has a superb 3in LCD, but the screen saps battery life, and images weren't as sharp as those of the Panasonic FX100.

The Panasonic DMC-FX55 has much to like: It's easy to use and well put together. For the price, though, we'd like a little better image quality.
