Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ10

Geared towards more serious enthusiasts, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ10 is neither compact nor light.

The FZ10's images were sharp and crisp. Our daylight test shot was slightly overexposed. Our flash shot also seemed unbalanced, with the foreground too bright. The FZ10 has a hot shoe for auxiliary flash. Boot time was slow (5.5 seconds). Recycle time...

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ10

Well built ; Fast, stabilized 12x zoom lens ; Sharp and large LCD and electronic view-finder ; Excellent continuous-shooting modes ; Full manual controls ; Very good photo quality ; Support for add-on lenses and external flash

No AF illuminator (and therefore poor low-light focusing) ; Must use manual focus for macro shots in manual shooting modes ; Electronic view-finder can be hard to see in low light

Big and well built, with a huge zoom lens, the Panasonic DMC-FZ10 Lumix Digital Camera is remarkably easy to use and has many standard features, but image quality is mixed.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ10; Big 12x Zoom Shows The Benefits Of A Built-In Image Stabilizer

With the typical 37-110mm (equivalent) optical zoom lens, it's impossible to take tight shots of distant subjects.

That's great news for anyone who enjoys shooting sports, wildlife, and performers on a distant stage, or any subject that's far from the camera. Simply zoom in to take frame filling images of the pitcher at a junior baseball game or a black bear...

Powerful 12x Leica zoom lens with built-in image stabilization. Panning mode adds background motion blur to sports photos. Excellent output image quality for the price.

Panning mode not great in bright sunlight. Basic hot shoe. Provided 16MB SD card too small for £400 camera.

Our original Lumix unit developed a fault during testing in which both the LCD display and the electronic viewfinder acquired a magenta cast, though photos still came out fine. The replacement unit we received functioned perfectly
