Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ5

The 6-megapixel Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ5 doesn't clearly distinguish itself.

6X optical zoom, higher than most compacts. Image stabilization. Excellent resolution.

Substandard performance and noticeable shutter lag. Images a bit noisy.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ3

Optical image stabilization; long-range, relatively fast lens; lots of handy features.

Mediocre performance; cheap build quality; some problems with image quality.

Poor low-light performance hinders the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ5's useful features.

Expert Review

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ5 ($279) is a midsize point-and-shoot camera with two standout features. The first is its lens; where most cameras in this class have 3X or 4X lenses, the LZ5's is 6X. The second feature is one found on all of Panasonic's...

6X optical zoom, Nice burst mode

Chunky design, Noisy images

A big optical zoom combined with robust features and solid image quality make this a good overall performer.
