Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS18 Review

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS18 (also known as the DMC-FH5) is a 16 megapixel compact digital camera with a 4x, 28-112mm optical zoom lens. Measuring just 19mm thick, the FS18 also features a 2.7 inch LCD screen and it can record 720p HD movies at 24fps....

Sometimes it's difficult differentiating between Lumix models at the entry-level point and shoot end of the spectrum, so similar are they - and in truth there's nothing much here that we haven't seen before from the brand, albeit with a lower pixel...

Unremarkable, but not bad, performance, but with nothing to really recommend it

Affordable entry-level camera; Accurate color performance

No distinguishing qualities; Cheap design

Based on its performance scores, the Panasonic FH5 is an average point-and-shoot. Colors are accurate, noise is well controlled, and resolution is acceptable. It’s nothing special, but as a cheap, easy camera built for the most casual of photographers,...

Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FH5 review: A compact digital camera that's useful for happy snaps

Good controls and comfortable to use ; Easy to operate ; Good focusing performance

LCD screen struggles in bright conditions ; Can't handle highlights properly ; No ISO limiting

The Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FH5 is a decent camera for happy snaps, but it does struggle in bright conditions. However, it's comfortable to hold, simple to operate and has plenty of scene modes, many of which are fun to use.

An affordable introduction to simple, quality digital photography

iA mode works very well ; Price ; Ease of use ; Size ; Image quality

No dedicated Movie button for instant switching ; Maximum ISO 1600 ; You Tube / Facebook software is Windows only

The FS18 is ideal for those looking to give young teenagers or older family members an introduction to digital photography
