Pentax K-50

The Pentax K-50 is a fully weather-sealed D-SLR camera with an big optical viewfinder and fast burst shooting capability. It's available to order in any of 120 color combinations, but its video functionality is behind the times.

Large pentaprism viewfinder. Weather-sealed design. 5.9fps burst shooting. Customizable controls and noise reduction. In-body shake reduction. Very good high ISO performance. Available in 120 different colors.

Fixed rear LCD. No mic input. Slow to focus when recording video.

The K-50 can be had as a body only, but only in a few of the 120 color combinations. In order to customize it completely you'll need to order it with the DA-L 18-55mm WR kit lens, which increases the price to $779.95. The WR designation means that the...

Pentax K-50 and K-500: Lots of photo features but photos disappoint

Both stuffed with semimanual shooting options, the weather-sealed K-50 and the K-500 seem like great deals. But they just don't come through on the photo quality.

The ; features a weather-sealed body that's unique in its price class, an interesting set of shooting features, support for AA-size batteries, and a relatively nice viewfinder. Plus, it comes in colors, if that appeals to you. The cheaper ; has the...

Image quality and performance, while acceptable, don't match the competition's, and the cameras lack an articulated LCD. Also, both the shutter and the lens make a lot of noise.

A reasonable option for an entry-level dSLR, the Pentax K-50 should satisfy if you need the weather-sealed design. But while acceptable, it and its cheaper sibling the K-500 lag behind the competition in image quality and performance.

Pentax K-50 ( with 18-55mm WR Lens, Black)

The K-50 has a cheaper brother, the K-500, which lacks the weather sealing and only comes in serious black. For review purposes, it's more or less identical.

The Pentax K-50 is a entry-level priced DSLR with an APS-C image sensor that aims to compete with more rugged mid-range cameras. A 16.3-megapixel CMOS image sensor pairs with the PRIME M image processor for low light sensitivity (ISO 100 - 51200),...

Pentax K-50 Review

The Pentax K-50 is a new mid-range DSLR camera. Key features include a dustproof, weather-resistant and cold-resistant construction, an ISO range of 100-51200, Full HD 1080p video at 30, 25 and 24fps, 6fps continuous shooting, 11-point SAFOX IX+ AF...

The Pentax K-50 is a very minor refresh of 2012's K-30 DSLR camera, additionally offering support for Eye-Fi wireless cards, an extra ISO 51200 setting, more sober styling than the "aggressive" K-30, and the option to uniquely customise the colour to...

Pentax K-50 Review

The Pentax K-50 appeared in our most recent Best DSLR and lens combination under $1,000 article. It's pretty easy to see why: the K-50 is one of the best deals around and we were able to put together several bundles with Pentax's excelent lenses for...

Pentax K-50 review: A decent entry-level DSLR that braves the elements

A year since its release, Ricoh Imaging's Pentax K-50 still touts something that no other consumer grade entry-level SLR camera offers: weather sealing. While it's not enough protection to save you if you dunk the camera in a pool, this sealing should...

Weather sealing to protect against exposure to the elements (water, dust) ; Speedy (albeit text-based) menu navigation

Images are very noisy after ISO 800 ; Colors appear oversaturated and inaccurate at default settings

The Pentax K-50 is chock-full of features, and those features—many of them, including in-camera vibration reduction and weather sealing, unique at this price—increase its allure. But its mixed image quality constrains its appeal.
