Image quality

Pentax Optio MX4

Well-integrated photo/video functionality; 4-megapixel photo capture; MPEG-4 video recording; 10X optical zoom works in both photo and video mode.

Sluggish autofocus and wake-up times; LCD image freezes during prefocus; zoom and aperture changes create audible noise on video recordings; awkwardly placed zoom control.

Pentax's second-generation hybrid camera offers decent-quality photos but only acceptable-quality video recordings.

Pentax Optio MX4

The Pentax Optio MX4's 10X zoom and hybrid video/still abilities make it worth considering for those who want to shoot a lot of video with their camera.

Very affordable for a superzoom or a hybrid still/video camera. Unique look. Versatile, fun-to-use shooter. Rich feature set. Impressive video and 10X optical zoom.

No image stabilization. Slow to recycle. Still image quality at the low end of average for a 4MP camera. Some controls awkwardly placed. Uninformative menus. No optical viewfinder.

With the megapixel rush subsiding, camera manufacturers have to come up with more ingenious ways of getting us to upgrade our cameras. Pentax seems to think that one such way is to produce a digital camera whose form factor is more like an 8mm...

Styling makes it easy to use for making movies

Focusing is sometimes slow to catch up, SD Card included is too small

Pentax has taken a standard feature on digital cameras and through the styling of this model made it the main feature. It's a brave attempt and one that works quite well especially as unlike most digital cameras there isn't a restriction on the amount...
