Ricoh Caplio R1 review

23 August 2004 was the day that Ricoh introduced the Ricoh Caplio R1 world-wide. The nicely shaped and stylishly finished Caplio R1 is equipped with a 4.0 Megapixel image sensor en features a powerful 4.8 optical zoom range. The Ricoh R1 has a number...

Ricoh Caplio R1 Review

The recommended retail price of the Ricoh Caplio R1 in the UK is £199 and in Europe it is 299,00 €

Ricoh seem to have taken one step forward and two steps back with the Caplio R1. Image quality has dramatically improved in comparison with previous Ricoh models, with only soft out-of-camera images spoiling a great perfomance (which is easy to fix...

Ricoh Caplio R1

If you think you've seen this camera somewhere before, it's because the spec is virtually identical to Ricoh's Caplio RZ1. This model features a 4.8x, 28-135mm (35mm film camera equivalent) wide-zoom lens. Its brother, the Caplio RZ1, features a...

Compact all metal styling & build; good metering and colour capture plus good specification that includes a 28-135mm wide-angle zoom lens.

Automatic slide-away lens cover occasionally jams at start up and shut down and the lens is soft at periphery

The R1 is versatile indeed; it is sturdily built, attractive and offers great wide-angle snapping options all at an attractive price. Niggles I had with the lens cover meant it was not totally magic. That aside, the R1 takes superb pictures let down at...

Ricoh Caplio R1

This is a camera with broad appeal -- it's fast, fully automatic and its wide-angle lens will keep everyone in the picture.

Slim, easy to carry. Wide angle shots to squeeze in the whole group (28-135mm film equivalent). Fast –no waiting to take shot.

Tricky battery/card slot cover. USB 1.1 not 2.0.

This is a camera with broad appeal -- it’s fast, fully automatic and its wide–angle lens will keep everyone in the picture.

Ricoh Caplio R1

Ricoh's Caplio R1 is unfortunately the underperformer of the lot in this Labs, with final scores below the 100 average. While the scores below may make it seem like it's a very poor camera, the reality is that the scores highlight the deviations and...

Ricoh - Caplio R1

We recently reviewed the Ricoh Caplio GX camera, a 5.1-megapixel device, roughly the size of a compact 35mm conventional camera. Ricoh's new R1 goes a lot smaller, about 10mm wider than a credit card and only ...

The Caplio R1 is a neat, robust little camera with good zoom, fast shot-on-shot exposure and a 10mm macro facility. Its LCD monitor can look washed out, though and the lack of rechargeable batteries, power supply or memory card looks stingy.
