Ricoh Caplio R4 Review

The Ricoh Caplio R4 is a very compact 6 megapixel digital camera with a massive 7x optical zoom lens that is equivalent to 28-200mm on a 35mm camera. Most cameras of this size offer a 3x or at...

Ricoh Caplio R4 review

Can the R4 avoid the criticism levelled at its predecesor?

Excellent macro feature

Some image noise at higher ISOs

The Ricoh R4 performs admirably and it's a good improvement on its predecessor

Ricoh Caplio R4 digital camera

The Ricoh Caplio R4 builds on the R-Series range, offering a svelte, well-styled compact digital camera that provides a level of specification and shooting options akin to a much more expensive camera. A new square-pixel type, 6-megapixel sensor...

Styling, good metering and colour capture, superb specification and lens, excellent auto white balance performance

No optical viewfinder, fingers cover flash in use, excessive noise at highest sensitivity setting

The Ricoh Caplio R4 houses a class leading lens with a sophisticated feature set that not only works but works very well indeed. Despite a couple of niggles the benefits easily outweigh them. True versatility, excellent optics and a wide range of...

Ricoh Caplio R4

Ricoh has never been afraid to be different, but the Caplio R4 sees the company plunging firmly into the mainstream.

This is a good camera with a far-reaching lens and fast startup times, but it's up against some tough competition. While many of the ingredients are right, they're often a little raw.

Ricoh Caplio R4

The Ricoh Caplio R4 is a great point and shoot camera with impressive zoom capabilities, but it's not for those with large fingers or tight jeans pockets.

Impressive optical zoom ; Wide angle lens ; Easy operation ; Large 2.5\" LCD

Buttons can be cumbersome ; Bulky compared to some compacts ; Software lacks simplicity

Picture quality is good and with the various scene modes, you can maximise the colour and details of your subject.

Ricoh Caplio R4 Review – 012

Like most second-tier manufacturers, Ricoh goes all out to grab you with little features that other camera makers either don't offer, or only offer on their top-of-the-line models. For instance, this camera has an interval timer that lets you select a...

There is a good reason why you should only use the digital zoom. The handbook warns you that the camera will pick up the noise of any buttons that are pressed while filming, so that definitely cancels out the optical zoom!

Announced on the 23rd of Febuary 06, the Ricoh Caplio R4 is a new 6 megapixel update to the Ricoh Caplio R3 - it has a 7.1x optical zoom lens - this is impressive considering that the camera is roughly the same size as other cameras with only a 3x...

The Ricoh Caplio R4 is a minor update to the Ricoh Caplio R3, with a higher resolution 6 megapixel sensor, a higher resolution screen, and longer battery life. I suspect that there have been more improvements made in the background as the camera seems...
