Expert Review

The DMR-EX77 seems to be having a hard time deciding what kind of device it wants to be. Although it upscales DVDs to high definition, it can't decode high-definition TV. Apart from this little contradiction however, it's generally a functional and...

Simple and easy-to-use recording, great inbuilt editing tool

Some noise and chromatic aberrations when upscaling DVDs, lacks a HD tuner despite HD upscaling

If you don't want to pay for Sky+, Panasonic has a great HDD/DVD recorder for you.

With a vast amount of features, extensive editing modes, excellent recording quality and top-notch upscaling, the DMR-EX77 sets a new benchmark for DVD/HDD recorders. It's the kind of flexible, all-encompassing unit that by rights should cost a lot...

Panasonic DMR-EX77 review

As much as we love Sky+, the gold standard for recording TV is to have a machine that has both a hard-drive and a DVD recorder for archiving your favourites. Luckily there are plenty of boxes out there that possess these powers. Our favourites have...

Panasonic DMR-EX77

It's bursting with other useful features, such as a Freeview tuner with seven -day EPG and an HDMI output with 1080p upscaling, which works with recordings as well as DVDs. It's the only deck in the group test to sport an SD card slot for playing back...

Loads of features, superb recorded picture quality

No DivX playback, dull design

Panasonic aims to maintain its impeccable digital recorder track record with the DMR-EX77, one of the first DVD/HDD decks to offer 1080p upscaling. It's equipped with everything you could possibly want from a combi recorder

Excellent

Easy to use and I am about to buy the 250GB HD or 500GB HD so I can record in HD and I will put the 160 in the other room with a set top box that way I CAN record HD because of the set top box. I have been very happy with this product and hope that I...

So easy to use, Love it. Love the way all the recoded programs are dated and numbered and are there for you to watch in your own time

Just that is doesn't record in HD however I knew that feature wasn't out when I bought this one

Good

This is a great HDD/DVD recorder. Our TV is 720p so the lower video settings still give great quality pictures to us. It only has 1 SD tuner but it's not often we want to record / watch 2 shows at the same time. We had trouble playing NTSC DVD's but...

Easy to set up. Recording shows from the episode guide is a breeze.

No USB input. Can't set up the machine to record the same program at the same time every week.

Good

I bought this unit for the brand name after reading reports for other brands (philips, LG and samsung). I have it for 3 months and it works fine. Had it coonected to my old SD plasma using the HDMI-DVI cale and it actually improve the picture quality....

Easy to use and simple remote keys. Simple to use recording and editing functions (you need to study the user guide first!) Able to record over 7 hours of programs onto a DVD (real time recording only, not express recording).

No caption/subtitle on tv programs which other STB or PVR do have. No real time playback/pause on live TV.
