Panasonic DMR-EX87 review

With such a rich history, Panasonic will take some beating

Format compatibility ; Picture quality ; Good EPG ; Loads of features

No DVD Audio compatibility

A great performer across the board, and well worth the reasonably high asking price

Panasonic DMR-EX87

The latest HDD/DVD recorder combi to roll off the Panasonic production line is the gorgeous DMR-EX87. It has a 250GB hard drive, can record onto any type of blank DVD, and delivers fantastic results at whatever it turns its hand to

Great HD quality, Amazing standard def pictures, Excellent editing tools

Only 2-channel DVD-Audio

A superb combi player, and one that excels in all areas

Not so good

Was working fine until I decided to copy a movie from the HDD to a DVD in high speed mode. It stopped half way through and then the DVD light came on and now it won't read a DVD to play or copy. Just get a no read message and a lot of noise. Out of...

Easy to use while working

Dosn't allow you to do what it was advertised to do.

Good

Panasonic have always built nice recorders, they led the way in VHS. It would be nice if you could upgrade to a bigger hard drive or add an external one.A USB input would of been good as well.

Very nice model. The digital tuner changes channels fast, something you don't really think about when in the shop.love the electronic tv program which you can use to set the timer record.Editing is easy when you want to put something of the HD onto a DVD.

If you record onto the hard drive in SP mode you will fill it up a lot quicker than LP.If you have set the timer and turn it off sometimes when i get up through the night i can hear that the machine has turned itself on and the front says "program".If...

Good

All in all its a great unit however you have to watch the power consumption on stand by mode as this can chew up a lot of power just by displaying the time for you, luckily enough it has a eco mode where you can switch the unit almost totally off and...

Its great to be able to record TV shows and even burn them to a disc. It has many features and works very well. We went for this one as we bought a Panasonic Plasma.

The power consumption on stand by mode is 17 watts an hour and that can add up to a great deal of money every quarter. Just keeping it on standby every hour of the day for 90 days costs $65 that's a great deal of money for something that isn't even...

Looks sleek and of high quality. So far it's worked perfectly and instructions are clear and fairly simple.

reliable and simple operation

'chunky' menu selections - some not obvious even with handbook assistance. Handbook could have been more end user friendly. Still NO disc eject facility from remote control. Hard drive NOT protected from accidental total erasure - particularly when in...

Panasonic DMR-EX87

Good picture. Upscales to 1080p. Remote will control most TVs. Has DVI and an SD slot, but can only copy video FROM the SD.

No analog tuner. Rear panel S-Video input has been deleted from this model. Will neither receive nor recoed HD from freeview (when it happens) Clunky menu means when you start to fill the disc it takes an age to locate a program. you can't really use...
