TVonics DTR-HD500 review

TVonics builds upon a previously good track record with this accomplished PVR. If you're after a Freeview HD solution, consider this

Interesting design ; nice assortment of features ; superb SD and HD pictures

Can be a little slow to respond

A clever design and a well-presented PVR, which definitely deserves an audition

TVonics DTR-HD500 review

There's no shortage of little black boxes on the market these days, Freeview+ HD PVRs included. Kudos to TVonics then for being bold with the HD500. But has it gone far enough with its features?

Freeview+ HD certification means series link recording is supported enabling users to record two channels at once to the reasonably sized 500GB hard disk while watching a recording ; Toplining the connections list is a trio of HDMIs (two in, one out),...

The remote is very usable and well designed though some oft-used buttons, such as Record and Library, could have been made more visible. l Fast forward and rewind speeds go up to 128x, but we experienced brief sound dropouts when returning to live TV...

TVonics DTR-HD500

Freeview HD is perfect for those who want high-def and can't stomach paying subscriptions, but we'd all rather a Sky+ experience, wouldn't we? In the rush to bring out Freeview HD recorders, summer 2010 saw some less-than-brilliant efforts, most often...

HDMI switching, design, picture quality, Freeview+ HD features

Lime green interface, limited media file support

Boasting an unusual design of box and interface, this Freeview+ HD recorder does just enough to impress. Recording functionality is good, as is the picture quality, though HDMI switching will widen the DTR-HD500’s appeal to those with older - or...

TVonics DTR-HD500 review

The TVonics DTR-HD500 might not be the first gizmo you have in mind when it comes to buying a Freeview HD set top box. After all, why bother when big names like Humax and Panasonic are turning out such incredible machines? Why? We'll tell you: read on...

Gorgeous design, extremely smart hardware, silent running

Garish menus and wallet-worrying price

British design at its best, smart and sexy. Buy with confidence, this one’s a solid gold contender.

TVonics DTR-HD500

Nice product, well designed, easy to use.

PVR never really worked correctly in that it would record fine but would not play back (recorded programes were broken and distorted).
