NAD T585 review

Even its high-end players are a bargain

An impressively well thought-through design ; Well built, with exceptional video quality ; Powerful and authoritative CD/DVD-Audio sound ; Well above average SACD performance

NAD livery arguably looks a bit tired ; Remote handset lacks backlighting and punch-through controls

Takes NAD's excellent top-end Masters Series and drops it into a more affordable, classically designed frame. An impressive mid-priced all-rounder

NAD T585

The NAD T585 is a very good universal player, with features and performance you won't find on more "cosmetically" minded devices -- but it's pricey.

No-nonsense build ; Excellent music player ; Upscaling to 1080i ; Suited to surround-sound music collectors

Video just a smidge off the pace ; Need to read manual to get best performance

In conclusion, the NAD T585 is a very good player with some features you just won't find on other, more "cosmetically" minded devices. Yet despite this, the flashy Marantz is simply the better player.

This new 'universal' disc player from classic 'budget specialist' NAD is a serious solution to a serious set of requirements, and consequently it costs proper, serious money

NAD T585

While universal disc players have been on the audio landscape for nearly a decade, the T585 is only NAD's second universal model, the first being the more expensive Masters Series M55. Like the M55, the T585 is not aimed at NAD's traditional budget...

Outside the T585 looks like your typical NAD. A simple box in NAD grey, with a full complement of clearly marked controls allowing operation without resort to the comprehensive but poorly laidout remote handset. Build quality is simply excellent, never...

NAD T585

NAD's second universal disc player is more at home with audio than video.

Good build, great sound, versatile connectivity

Only average video performance, no native video over HDMI, waste of time upscaling unless you have a mediocre display, poorly laid out remote. Not great VFM

NAD T585

Being a dedicated AUDIOPHILE I have been a retailer and purchaser of NAD products since their inception, through distributor changes over the decades within Australia.

AUDIO AND VISUAL PERFECTION ; AESTHETICALLY NEUTRAL ; SIMPLE TO SETUP AND OPERATE ; NO ANNOYING FLASHING LIGHTS ON THE DISPLAY ; VERY LITTLE TO GO WRONG

NO GADGETS TO PLAY WITH ; SORRY HAVING TROUBLE FINDING ANOTHER PROBLEM TO ADD

NAD T585

Great picture; great sound and working perfectly so I would definitely recommend it. However, I have very limited experience of DVD players having only owned one previously. I decided to buy it after reading the professional reviews at...

I found the instruction manual rather hard going. Luckily, the player has an HDMI output terminal so all I had to do was plug it in and switch on. One annoying thing is that when playing a CD, the NAD Logo and the contents of the CD are permanently...
