Panasonic DMR-E50 review: Panasonic DMR-E50

 

Relatively inexpensive; excellent recording quality in XP and SP modes; simultaneous recording and playback with DVD-RAM; MP3 CD playback.

No IR blaster for cable or satellite control; soft recording quality in EP mode; no FireWire input.

The least-expensive DVD recorder on the market lacks some key add-ons, but it performs its basic tasks well.

Only Broken Twice

 

Others have discussed the condescending software that comes with this unit. I'll address the integrity of the thing. I got the DVR on 3/03. It has been in for warranty repairs twice since then. In 7/03 it just refused to burn anymore and wouldn't ...

Good riddance VHS - DVD Recordable has arrived!

 

I've long wanted a DVD recorder, but price was always a major deterent, along with the price of the media itself, and the seeming incompatibilities amongst the +R/-R formats. When my VCR died several months ago, and our (Cheap) backup VCR on it's way ...

Price, disc compatibility with standalone DVD players, DVD-Ram capability.

Poor IR reception, clunky "Keyboard" letter input, slow reaction to buttons, inability to disable VCR-Plus.

Well worth the money.

 

Ive been using this unit for 5 days since I received it so Ill try to give you an overview of my experience with it. The first thing you notice is the sleek utilitarian look of the unit. The LED cover shines like a mirror when the unit isnt turned on....

Very affordable, progressive scan, general fun factor.

Poor remote, some media incompatibility. no DV input.
