Philips DVDR5570H review

Say goodbye to adverts with this flexible hard-disk combi

Time Shift Buffer ; Commercial Block ; Appealing design ; Wealth of features ; Good remote control

Some picture issues ; Basic editing options ; No Freeview Playback

Lacks the pick-up-and-play quality of the latest Panasonics, but there’s lots to admire and plenty of great features

Philips DVDR5570H

A decent DVD/HDD machine is let down by poor usability and sluggish control - it's also at the top end of the price bracket

Easy on the eye ; clear remote control ; good specs ; faithful recordings ; decent DVD picture

Cumbersome control system ; menus are confusing ; time lag when selecting channels or recordings

The other feature guaranteed to bring a smile to your face is Commercial Block, which automatically puts chapter markers at the start and end of adverts so you can skip right past them at the touch of a button.

Looks, Time Shift Buffer, remote, recording quality

No series recording, basic editing

Hopeless Philips DVDR5520H/75 Recorder

A very expensive DVD recorder with only a basic interface. Very very slow to start if it does. The DVD draw is extremely hard to open. The time shift on the remote is not user friendly. The system updates don't seem to do anything. I would have...

Start up, DVD draw not opening, expensive

Poor value for money

Expensive machine, which does not last. The recording function failed after only 6 months or so and now it is only used as a DVD player. Not good since the recorder is what it is known for. I did not buy it for the player. Very disappointing product....

Recording function breaks down. Expensive machine.

Do your research, I wish I did.

This unit takes a long time to turn on. I'm just hanging onto it until I can relpace it with something that actually works.

The user interface is quite simple and the menus are easily navigable( I'm sure that's a word).

This unit takes a long time to turn on. It will randomly delete previously recorded shows. The picture freeze during playback while you lose a few seconds of dialogue. While watching a dvd it will some times freee and switch to TV. I had a software...

Terrible

Panasonic or LG have better reputation. I've heard philips customer service is REALLY bad. I'm just 'babying' it through until i get another one in few pay cheques more.

got it for $300 after philips dvd recorder was DOA at Bing Lee, Bankstown. Free MP3 player. 6 hour record is good and wheel on remote but this is unreliable via its software.

deletes shows on hard drive randomly. software crashes and deletes shows. timer sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. fast forwarding in shows can causes crashes or just return to begining of recording. i have upgraded to software version 2.22 but...

Terrible

All I want is a refund so I can buy a different brand that works. Would never buy this unit again. Very disappointed.

Love that I can record or re-wind tv if I miss something or decide half way through program that I want to record it.

It is very slow!!! The kids want to watch a DVD now- not in 5 mins after the player has had time to "think about it". It takes forever to load and read the DVD. Whenever I playback a recording from the HDD it is very frustrating as every 5 mins or so...

Terrible

I am so upset and dissatisfied with the product and with their customer service. I have done everything they asked and have been disappointed consistently. Never buy a Philips - their product & service is appalling.

Click wheel design on remove

Everything - it doesn't work. Since I purchased this I have had so many problems. I have taken it back to get repaired, and it is still not fixed. Philips refuse to give me a refund. They want me to keep going back (driving an hour each way) to get it...

Bad

Probably wouldnt buy this model again. If you do make sure you buy the extended warranty. Our one broke down after 13 months !

It was fairly cheap, picture quality good, plays DIVX

Has broken down already, takes ages to switch on.
