Pioneer DVR-520H

Excellent recording quality; slim design; easy-to-use menus; good DVD and hard drive dubbing and backup features.

No electronic programming guide or IR blaster.

Although it lacks a programming guide like that of its TiVo-powered rivals, Pioneer's slim, beginner-friendly DVR-DVD combo boasts some thoughtful features.

Fast transfer, high image quality, many features, intuitive interface

Poor remote control design, slow channel switching

Its image quality is stellar, and its dubbing superfast. Aside from a cramped remote, there's little to complain about with this Pioneer.

Pioneer DVR-520H

This is a slim and appealing little DVD recorder at a very tempting price, but it's a pity that support for all types of common DVD media isn't present.

Works like a dream!
